Full Job Description
Role:

The role of Operations Data Analyst reports to the Director, Mission Assurance and resides within the Administration function of the larger Programs & Operations Team of 49North, an MDA Space business. As an Operations Data Analyst, you will work with business stakeholders to realize business intelligence through structured data analysis, processing and visualization. This role also includes Process Specialist responsibilities, you will work with process stakeholders to define, realize (implement), deploy and maintain in-scope processes as well as administrate supporting systems, notably the 49North Business Process System (BPS). As an ISO 9001 certified Quality System and plans to implement Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), you will help continuously improve select enterprise systems to meet local needs and assist in the deployment of OneMDA Corporate improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Operations Data Analyst includes those associated with continual improvement as a Process Specialist. In terms of data analysis, two aspects are considered: business intelligence initiation and business intelligence realization.

Business Intelligence Initiation

Works with Business Leadership and performs the following:

  • Identifies the means to quantitatively or qualitatively support assessment of key business objectives and their corresponding Critical Success Factors through identification of Key Performance Indicators and associated metrics
  • Creates plans describing the bringing together of data sources, working with Corporate stakeholders (e.g. IT) as necessary


Business Intelligence Realization

  • Identifies and assesses data sources for suitability and takes actions to remediate data quality and integrity as necessary
  • Connects data sources in a way that enables collective analysis
  • Develops dashboards, reports and data visualizations that provide meaningful insights to performance
  • Performs analyses identifying trends, patterns, anomalies and opportunities for improvement
  • Provides and/or presents evidence-based data interpretations and recommendations


In terms of continual improvement, two aspects are considered: facilitating implementation and change initiatives and administrating supporting systems.

Implementation and Change Initiatives Facilitation

Sources of improvement efforts can include ongoing activities (e.g. maintaining the BPS), local business initiatives (e.g. implementing CMMI), and enabling the deployment of Corporate-sponsored OneMDA initiatives.

  • Collaborates with leaders and subject matter experts to understand business challenges and information needs
  • Administrates the identification, prioritization and effort reporting of process improvement initiatives
  • Assesses processes (e.g. preforms value stream mapping), including creating as-is and to-be depictions of process, to identify and eliminate inefficiencies, waste, and ineffectiveness
  • Facilitates discovery activities working with process stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Creates/revises process descriptions (e.g. procedures) and associated process artifacts (e.g. forms, templates) and training materials


Supporting Systems Administration

  • Establishes and maintains the process improvement roadmap reflecting the priorities of Operational Excellence and, as applicable, upgrades to the content of the BPS
  • Maintains the BPS through the evaluation of process Change Requests (CRs) and administration of Change Control Board (CCB) meetings with Process Owners
  • Participates in the review of Lessons Learned reports to identify potential opportunities for improvement (OFIs)
  • Leads the disposition of OFI records
  • Serves as the local MS SharePoint administrator and maintains the BPS infrastructure and associated instructional information on use and administration of the BPS
  • Performs process change impact assessments for proposed or planned changes
  • Establishes and maintains a process improvement performance dashboard and periodically reports on process improvement performance


Requirements (experience/skills)

  • A two- or three-year accredited diploma or certificate program in data analysis
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the definition, implementation, maintenance and administration of business processes
  • Working knowledge of and administrator-level hands-on experience with Power BI
  • Experience with database management systems and related query language, notably SQL
  • Microsoft SharePoint site-level administrator experience including HTML and Java scripting capabilities
  • Experience with a structured change implementation methodology as applied to business processes is required. Experience in process value-stream mapping is considered an asset
  • Willingness to extend one's own technical capabilities through learning
  • Experience working within a quality management system or an ISO- or CMMI-certified workplace is considered an asset
  • Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g. Infor LN) is considered an asset
  • History of taking the initiative while diplomatically keeping leadership stakeholders informed along the way
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in the areas of peer collaboration and teamwork; comfortable interfacing with the senior management team and able to 'sell' improvement initiatives
  • Proven communication skills with an ability to present to multiple stakeholder groups and achieve their buy-in for improvement initiatives


Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $75,000.00 - $122,760.00 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
