Full Job Description
Position Title: Operational General Manager

We are seeking an accomplished Operational General Manager to lead construction operations throughout Central and Northern California. This executive-level position will oversee a $40M-$60M annual operation, manage multiple concurrent capital projects, and lead project management, estimating, field operations, and construction teams from bidding through final execution.

The Operational General Manager will spend approximately 50% of their time in the field and 50% in the office, maintaining direct visibility into project performance, customer relationships, financial results, and team execution. The ideal candidate is a proven construction or engineering leader who understands P&L management, estimating, and capital projects and has the presence, communication skills, and leadership ability to strengthen culture while driving operational excellence.

Salary Range: $195,000 - $235,000 / Year DOE

Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall operational performance of construction projects throughout Central and Northern California
  • Oversee approximately $40M-$60M in annual project activity, maintaining accountability for budgets, P&L performance, and financial goals
  • Direct 6-10 concurrent projects ranging from approximately $900K to $5M, ensuring quality execution, schedule adherence, and customer satisfaction
  • Manage the complete project lifecycle, including estimating, bidding, planning, grading, drainage, subcontractor coordination, construction, and closeout
  • Lead and develop project managers, estimators, superintendents, crew leaders and other operational personnel across a team of approximately 25-30 employees
  • Review project plans, specifications, estimates, budgets and schedules to identify risks and maintain operational and financial performance
  • Build strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors and internal stakeholders while representing the organization with professionalism
  • Deliver presentations and communicate project, operational and financial performance to customers and senior leadership
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability and communication across the regional team while strengthening the culture of the Fresno operation
  • Travel throughout the territory to maintain field visibility, support project teams, and address operational challenges directly

Requirements
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in construction, engineering, capital projects, or a closely related operational environment
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing complex construction or capital improvement projects
  • Demonstrated responsibility for budgets of at least $25M, including strong knowledge of P&L management and financial performance
  • Strong understanding of construction estimating, project execution, subcontractor coordination, trades, budgets, and schedules
  • Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, including project managers and field personnel
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, deadlines, and customer expectations
  • Strong executive communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively manage both up and down an organization
  • High level of technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn project management, CRM and reporting platforms
  • Confident, proactive leadership style with the ability to navigate strong personalities, establish accountability, and build an effective team culture
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, though substantial relevant experience will be considered in place of a degree
