Position Overview

We're seeking a dynamic, high-impact Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Leader who thrives in fast-moving environments and is passionate about elevating performance. In this critical role, you will spearhead transformative process improvement initiatives, strengthen collaboration across teams, and champion a culture of continuous improvement. Your leadership will directly influence operational excellence and deliver results that matter.

Your Exciting Responsibilities as an Operational Excellence MBB - Site Leader:

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with site leadership to identify and prioritize high-value opportunities to eliminate waste and reduce variation. Work closely with the Government Operations (GO) OpEx leadership team to shape and execute strategic initiatives that strengthen OpEx capabilities and advance a culture of operational excellence across GO.
  • High-Impact Facilitation: Lead strategic planning and project selection sessions with site management, ensuring focus, alignment, and meaningful outcomes.
  • Project Leadership: Drive highly visible, complex, and strategic process improvement projects from kickoff through successful completion.
  • Team Motivation: Inspire and guide the NFS OpEx team to deliver exceptional results through the effective application of LSS principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Technical & Leadership Expertise: Provide expert technical and managerial guidance throughout the year, mentoring and overseeing OpEx team members to support their success.
  • Talent Development: Coach Master Black Belts, Black Belts, Green Belts, and Yellow Belts through certification, building a strong pipeline of future OpEx and BWXT leaders.
  • Certification Excellence: Conduct independent Black Belt certification reviews to uphold rigorous standards of performance and quality.
  • Continuous Learning Culture: Offer constructive feedback during dry runs and participate in project report-outs, reinforcing a culture of growth and continuous improvement.
  • Training Design & Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging LSS training programs that strengthen capabilities and support effective deployment across the organization.
  • Measure & Manage Impact: Estimate both soft and hard benefits, including Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), for a variety of improvement projects. Manage your cost center responsibly within annual expense and direct-hour budgets.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Extensive Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant Lean Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement experience, including proven success as a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt with a strong track record of driving change and delivering measurable results.
  • Change Management Expertise: Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and secure commitment at all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled Facilitator: Proven strength in leading diverse teams, facilitating cross-functional sessions, and building positive working relationships.
  • Exceptional Coaching Ability: Successful experience coaching, teaching, and mentoring others to elevate capabilities and performance.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Results-Driven Mindset: Demonstrated business acumen, technical aptitude, and a team-oriented approach with a strong focus on achieving impactful results.
  • Citizenship & Clearance: U.S. citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
  • On-Site Requirement: Must be able to work onsite at our Mt. Vernon location; remote work is not available for this role.


Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Technical undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or math.
  • MBA.
  • Diverse Background: Functional experience across multiple disciplines such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project management.

Pay: $114,000 - $180,000

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000 and $180,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
