Full Job Description
Responsibilities

Peraton is hiring an experienced Open Science professional/Scientist to support the CDC OSQLS Knowledge Management (KM) Team in advancing Open Science, public access, research transparency, and reproducibility across the agency. The CDC OSQLS KM Team supports systems and services for electronic scientific clearance, public access, content management, document routing, research compliance, and scientific publishing across CDC Centers, Institutes, and Offices (CIOs). The team also supports the CDC Stacks public repository and internal systems that facilitate scientific research and publishing.

 

As CDC expands its Open Science practices, the selected candidate will help researchers develop transparent and reproducible research packages, improve KM systems and workflows, and develop training and guidance to support Open Science implementation across CDC.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and co-author Open Science training materials, guidelines, and implementation resources.
  • Propose enhancements to KM systems and tools that strengthen Open Science practices.
  • Develop and recommend Open Science workflows supporting research transparency, reproducibility, and compliance.
  • Work directly with CDC researchers to integrate Open Science principles into research workflows.
  • Liaise with CDC Centers, Institutes, and Offices (CIOs) to provide Open Science outreach, instruction, and research support.
  • Provide reference and research support to researchers seeking guidance on Open Science implementation.
  • Collaborate with CDC scientific leadership and CIO staff to implement Open Science practices.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in CDC and federal Open Science committees and working groups.
  • Adapt activities and deliverables as CDC Open Science policies, practices, and implementation priorities evolve.
Qualifications

 

Basic Requirements:

 

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Extensive knowledge of Open Science policies, guidelines, and practices, including U.S. Public Access policies, the Gold Standard Science memorandum, and Open Data policy and law.
  • Experience with Open Science tools such as DMPTool, Open Science Framework (OSF), GitHub, repository platforms, and data documentation tools.
  • Excellent communication, training, and documentation skills.
  • Expert knowledge of the Persistent Identifier (PID) landscape.
  • Experience using one or more PID assignment interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required agency clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Federal, state, academic, or other Open Science leadership experience.
  • Research experience implementing Open Science practices.
  • Experience developing Open Science training materials or providing training to researchers.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining document, data, or software repositories.
  • Experience with library reference services, IT help desk procedures, workflows, or ticketing systems.
  • Web development experience.

 

Target Salary Range$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
