Job Description

The University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery, in partnership with the Methodist Transplant Institute in Memphis, TN, is accepting applications for the Medical Director of Transplant Hepatology. This is a full-time non-tenure track Open Rank Professor position. As a leader in the field of organ transplantation for more than forty years, this transplant program provides liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, living donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery to patients with end-stage organ disease in the Midsouth.

Responsibilities

Skilled leader with a track record of supporting excellent patient outcomes, fostering program growth, and ensuring compliance with UNOS and OPTN rules and bylaws. The Medical Director should have extensive experience in the care of patients with advanced liver disease at all levels, including evaluation of pre-transplant candidates, donor selection, proper maintenance of the waitlist and long-term post-transplant care of liver transplant recipients. The Director should be able to build relationships with the community and internal partners. This position would work side by side with the Surgical Director, Quality Director, and the Senior Administrative Director of Transplant to ensure high-quality patient outcomes while broadening the reach of the Transplant Institute.

Participation in the training of medical students, gastroenterology fellows, and transplant hepatology fellows is expected. Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research exist and are highly encouraged through our endowed Transplant Research Institute. Supervision of advanced practice providers is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: MD/DO or equivalent degree. Completion of ASTS Fellowship.

EXPERIENCE: Board-certified with a minimum of five (5) years of transplant experience. Must meet the OPTN/UNOS certification for primary liver transplant physician. Must provide direct care for hepatology and liver transplant patients. Proven leadership ability, along with excellent team building, collaboration and exceptional verbal and written communication skills. ERCP skills would be beneficial.

LICENSES: Board-certified in Gastroenterology. Board-certified in Transplant Hepatology. Licensed Physician by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
