CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is expanding its metocean capabilities to strengthen its global oceanographic data acquisition, processing, and delivery services. CSA is seeking a senior-level professional to lead and support operational execution, equipment management, and data workflows associated with physical oceanography and metocean projects. This role is focused on buoy system management, field operations, instrumentation, and data quality, working in close coordination with CSA's project scientists and technical teams.

Position Summary

The Oceanographic Mooring Deployment Specialist is a senior technical and operational lead responsible for planning and overseeing oceanographic and metocean buoy deployments, instrumentation workflows, and associated data delivery. The role combines hands-on field leadership with technical decision-making authority across equipment selection, deployment strategies, and data quality assurance, working in close collaboration with project scientists, project managers, and commercial teams.

This position serves as CSA's lead specialist for mooring-based metocean operations, providing subject-matter expertise throughout the project lifecycle-from proposal development and operational planning through deployment execution, data processing, and final reporting. The role is accountable for ensuring that field operations and data workflows are scientifically defensible, operationally efficient, safe, and aligned with contractual and client expectations. Domestic and international travel and time at sea are required.

  • Plan and oversee metocean field operations, including mobilization, deployment, recovery, and demobilization
  • Install, calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot oceanographic and metocean instrumentation
  • Provide senior technical and operational input to commercial proposals, including scope development, equipment selection, logistics planning, schedules, and cost estimates related to buoy systems
  • Oversee data acquisition, post-processing, QA/QC, analysis, and reporting of metocean datasets in collaboration with project scientists
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for field operations, instrumentation, and data workflows
  • Coordinate with project managers, scientists, and clients to ensure timely delivery of data products that meet contractual, scientific, and quality requirements
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security requirements, company policies, and client safety standards during all operational activities

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, fabrication, deployment, and recovery of oceanic metocean mooring systems
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in metocean or oceanographic operations, including offshore fieldwork
  • Strong knowledge of marine field operations, instrumentation deployment, equipment logistics, and operational risk management
  • Proven ability to lead field activities, make sound operational decisions, and resolve technical challenges in dynamic environments
  • Demonstrated attention to data quality, documentation, and QA/QC throughout acquisition and processing workflows
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally and work at sea
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety, including completion of required safety training and medical assessments

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree or equivalent technical experience in a STEM-related field (e.g., Oceanography, Meteorology, Geosciences, Earth Engineering, Geomatics, or related discipline)
  • Experience developing or refining operational procedures, field manuals, or SOPs for marine operations or data workflows
  • Experience supporting proposal development, cost estimation, and technical planning for metocean or oceanographic projects
  • Foreign language skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multinational teams and international clients

Applicants must possess current, long-term authorization to work in the United States.
