Responsibilities

The occupational therapist will provide services for the pediatric population age 0-21 with developmental, neurological, and medical based disorders in an outpatient clinic setting. This position performs highly responsible work that will promote quality patient care and efficiency. The occupational therapist will also collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, psychologists, therapists, BCBAs, school staff, and parents to provide holistic services. The occupational therapist is responsible for planning and administering evaluations, treatment plans, consults, screenings, parent education and for promoting the overall health of the patient. In addition, this position requires flexibility with scheduled hours as the company continues to thrive and grow.

 

Duties and responsibilities:                                                                                                                                           

  • Provides skilled occupational therapy treatment plans in accordance with physician orders and by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results of patients.
  • Adheres to state requirements for supervision of COTAs to provide services with the highest care standards
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending follow-up programs.
  • Agrees to complete 75% billable hours of all hours worked each week. If not consistently met, 30 days (thirty) to achieve this standard before a transition to part time status occurs.
  • Promptly and thoroughly documents and maintains clinical and administrative records regarding patient limitations/interventions, treatments, responses and progress to administered therapy as well as discharge summaries.
  • Maintains patient records confidentially.
  • Records treatment charges daily and completes documentation in accurate and timely manner.
  • Complies with the applicable State Occupational Therapy Practice Act, rules and regulations

 

Additional Responsibilities:                                                                                                                                       

  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
  • Maintains clean work area, clean treatment rooms and requests needed supplies.
  • Maintains professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and other professionals as it relates to collaboration of care for the patient.
  • Keeps regular clinic hours as approved by Manager.
  • Directs all patient scheduling matters through the front desk coordinator.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:                                                                                                                            

  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles, techniques, materials and equipment in pediatric occupational therapy.
  • Ability to evaluate a patient’s occupational therapy needs and communicate the patient’s needs to the legal guardian and/or appropriate parties involved in the patient’s care.
  • Ability to communicate with a high degree of written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CPT & ICD 10 coding procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of computer programs (EMRs)
