Job DescriptionAs a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in improving our Health and Safety Programs at our San Diego shipyard site, while reporting to the Site Safety Manager.
As an Occupational Safety Specialist, Senior, you will:
- Partner with management, staff, and employees to promote and support a safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all employees through our Safety Management System (SMS).
- Develop strategies to remove or mitigate risks related to identified workplace hazards.
- Lead incident investigations, collaborating with stakeholders to identify root causes, contributing factors and implement preventive measures.
- Complete and submit customer incident reporting forms.
- Coordinate and oversee proper safety incident response including evidence collection, preservation and documentation.
- Communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership and subcontractors to ensure that safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
Required Skills and Education- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline, and four years' experience applying safety processes in an industrial environment, or the overall equivalent.
- Knowledge of Safety and Health regulations and modern safety management principles.
- Knowledge and ability to apply incident investigation and causal analysis methodology.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, especially during high-stress incidents and emergency situations.
- Ability to act independently to quickly recognize when issues need to be elevated and additional support is required.
- Able to support travel of up to 10%. Travel is typically local to the San Diego area.
Preferred Skills and Education- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Experience with Process Safety Management
- Management system experience (OSHA, ISO 45001)
