Responsibilities

  • Schedule: (5) 24 hr shifts per month

What You Will Do

We are looking for a Board Certified OBGYN MD/DO with 4 years experience for our new OB Hospitalist program.

The OB Hospitalist will be responsible for:
  • Management of labor up to and including delivery, as requested by generalist physicians
  • Urgent postpartum care as requested by the assigned physician
  • Providing back-up and consultation for midwifery service
  • Caring for all unassigned patients who present to the OB Unit or Emergency Room
  • Triage of all patients who present to the unit unless directly admitted
  • When requested, assist in cesarean deliveries
  • Communicate with Maternal Fetal Medicine on consults & actions when requested
  • Level III maternity center
  • Level III NICU
  • 24hr dedicated OB anesthesia


  • Specialty Assets: Access to Level III Maternity and NICU facilities at Carmel and in-house OB-specific anesthesiology at Carmel and Fishers.
  • Collaborative Culture: Partner closely with a highly integrated nursing team and four distinct OB groups to optimize delivery and triage workflows.
  • Clinical Excellence: Lead emergency GYN surgical interventions, managing high-acuity cases including ectopics and ovarian torsions with full specialty support.
  • Outcome-Focused Triage: Drive unit efficiency by managing all triage arrivals and ER consults, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
  • Requirements: Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Obstetrics and Gynecology.


Call Schedule: dedicated on-site call coverage with frequency and responsibilities as noted above

Projected 2000 deliveries/year.

About the Facility

Ascension St. Vincent Carmel is a full-service hospital featuring a Level III Maternity Center and Level III NICU. With 8 L&D rooms, it managed over 2,000 deliveries in 2025 and serves high-risk maternal patients.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.

  • Surgical Proficiency: Physicians who are comfortable performing emergency GYN surgeries independently.
  • High-Acuity Comfort: Physicians who thrive in fast-paced, high-volume environments with minimal downtime.
  • Regional Flexibility: While we take location preferences into consideration, we appreciate physicians who are able and willing to float between Carmel, Fishers, Anderson, and Kokomo.
