Full Job Description
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Nutrition Support Dietitian to provide advanced, evidence-based nutrition care within the Clinical Nutrition-Inpatient department. This team delivers specialized nutrition assessment, intervention, and monitoring for medically complex patients in an acute care environment, partnering closely with interdisciplinary teams to support optimal clinical outcomes.

As a Nutrition Support Dietitian at UT MD Anderson, the Nutrition Support Dietitian will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient-centered care, participating in clinical rounds, and leading nutrition-related initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree with completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics-approved internship, with a Master's degree preferred, along with relevant clinical nutrition experience in complex care settings. The candidate will also maintain active Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian, and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician credentials and demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, and advanced clinical practice capabilities.

Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care
• Provide evidence-based nutrition care aligned with diagnosis, treatment plan, age, and individualized patient needs
• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments integrating subjective and objective data and nutrition-focused physical exams
• Determine individualized nutrient needs and develop care plans using guidelines and clinical judgment
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in patient care rounds
• Recommend, implement, and monitor nutrition interventions for optimal outcomes
• Complete timely and accurate documentation consistent with policies and regulatory standards
• Deliver initial and follow-up care within established timeframes and reassessment criteria
• Identify patient and family education needs and provide appropriate instruction
• Assess learning barriers and document educational interventions
• Cross-cover additional inpatient or outpatient services as needed

Advanced Practice & Leadership
• Demonstrate advanced practice through leadership beyond routine patient care
• Lead or co-lead Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement initiatives
• Contribute to clinical and operational improvement projects
• Develop and implement programs, protocols, or tools to enhance clinical outcomes
• Deliver presentations, lectures, or posters at professional conferences
• Author or co-author manuscripts, articles, or institutional content
• Volunteer in institutional outreach or public engagement initiatives
• Provide formal presentations to interdisciplinary teams
• Develop educational materials for professional or community use
• Participate actively in professional organizations or initiatives

Clinical Practice & Professional Development
• Maintain high competency in nutrition research, standards, and clinical practice
• Participate in staff development through formal and informal education
• Contribute to development and revision of departmental resources and policies
• Share evidence-based practices and case studies with peers and teams
• Mentor and precept new staff, students, interns, and observers
• Participate in workgroups or institutional committees
• Attend meetings regularly and complete assigned tasks
• Provide relevant updates and information to clinical teams

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree and
  • Required: Completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) approved dietetic internship or its equivalent.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 4 years Clinical nutrition experience. or
  • Required: 2 years Required experience with preferred degree.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: RD - Registered Dietitian Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Required: LD - Licensed Dietitian Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
  • Required: CNSC - Certified Nutrition Support Clinician.
