Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The major responsibility of the position is working with faculty, students, and staff to ensure that high quality simulation learning activities are efficiently implemented across all nursing programs. Instructors will be working with ASN and/or PN students in skill-based activities and utilizing low, moderate, and high-fidelity lab equipment as well as standardized participants to facilitate learners to build competence in nursing skills and use the clinical judgment process to deliver safe patient care at novice nurse entry level. Simulation Instructor opportunities are present for the simulation centers at both Quincy and Plymouth campuses.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: For the RN Associate of Science in Nursing program a Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education (MSN) is required or a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) with enrollment in an MSN program from an accredited college or university with expected completion within three years of hire. CNEcl certification preferred.

For the Practical Nursing Certificate program at least a BSN is required from an accredited college or university and to meet the following requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Current licensure in good standing as a registered nurse in Massachusetts required;
  • Minimum of two years full-time employment in nursing or its equivalent within the past five years and evidence of clinical competence required;
  • Prior teaching experience preferred; especially simulation educator experience based on the Best Practice Standards for Simulation in Healthcare?.
  • Certification in Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) a plus
  • Demonstrates understanding and commitment of Nursing Education and working with a diverse population.
  • Ability to adapt, manage and prioritize in role.
  • Flexibility and commitment in work arrangements required.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to meet clinical site CORI requirements pursuant to licensing and CHSB regulations.


Immunization requirements consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health College (Postsecondary Institutions): Two MMR's or positive titers indicating immunity, Completed Hepatitis B series and/or positive titer indicating immunity, Varicella antibody titers, history of DTaP primary series or age-appropriate catch-up vaccination, Td within 10 years, Annual negative PPD, TSpot, or QuantiFERON (Preferred), or Chest X-ray within 5 years for positive responders, Covid-19 vaccination per faculty requirements, and annual flu shot.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Engage with students in a teaching/learning process that prepares students for the practice of nursing in diverse healthcare environments
  • Serve as a professional role model upholding regulatory, ethical, and nursing standards of practice
  • Create and maintain a safe supportive and positive learning environment conducive to skill development.
  • Assist with set up and breakdown of laboratory/ simulation sessions
  • Prepare prior to sessions as needed so knowledgeable of content and lab agenda plan of modules/simulations,
  • Use information technologies skillfully to support teaching-learning process including the use of online tools, electronic charts, high-fidelity human simulators and equipment
  • Teach and demonstrate nursing procedures and techniques within the lab, ensuring students understand practical applications
  • Mentor and guide students, providing clinical insights and fostering the development of practical nursing abilities
  • Direct, instruct, and facilitate student learning outcomes in the laboratory setting promoting student use of clinical judgement process model
  • Provide formative evaluations that promote learning, and validate nursing skills and competencies in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Offer constructive feedback to students, assessing their competencies and progress in the lab setting.
  • Evaluate student performance in the laboratory and simulation settings and ensure performance meets competencies of the program based on course objectives and program outcomes
  • Maintain communication with lead course faculty and the applicable Assistant Dean of Nursing regarding student progress and/or instructional issues;
  • Communicate effectively with Division of Nursing faculty, students, and administrative team to enhance the overall educational experience and foster collaboration.
  • Participate with faculty to collaborate and discuss program needs and improvements.
  • Engage in program evaluations and contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance nursing education.
  • Demonstrate motivation, self-direction, and perseverance toward achieving the philosophy and mission of the Division of Nursing;
  • Continue to improve expertise in nursing and teaching through academic study, clinical practice, and other appropriate professional development activities
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework, including new adjunct faculty orientation and clinical site orientation as applicable:
    • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
    • Non-Discrimination & Sexual Harassment
    • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
    • FERPA
    • Municipal Ethics Law
  • Attend faculty and/or student meetings as needed
  • Assume other related duties as assigned.


Additional Information:

Salary Range:

Bachelors Degree: $65 per hour
Masters Degree: $70 per hour
Ph.D.: $75 per hour
