THE POSITION

As a Nursing Services Consultant with the Department of Health, you will support important work that improves outcomes for infants affected by Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). This role allows you to partner with health care professionals and advance statewide reporting and quality standards. Your efforts will help strengthen education, support data accuracy, and guide improvements across the program.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports statewide efforts to guide, strengthen, and monitor the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Program. The role involves providing technical assistance, managing case information, and supporting training, reporting, and program improvement activities. As a Nursing Services Consultant, you will perform the following duties:
  • Program Support: Assist with development, implementation, and ongoing work of the NAS Program
  • Technical Guidance: Provide support to hospitals, birthing centers, and midwives to ensure accurate electronic reporting
  • Training Development: Create materials, identify educational needs, and communicate with providers statewide
  • Case Management: Review reports, document case actions, and ensure activities follow national standards
  • Data Quality: Conduct quality assurance checks and summarize findings for reporting and improvement
  • Representation Duties: Participate in meetings, workgroups, and conferences on behalf of the NAS Program

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Travel as necessary
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of professional nursing experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • If you possess an active temporary practice permit, you must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:
