Description:

Position Purpose:

At Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, the Nurse Senior - Educator, also known as the Nursing Professional Development Specialist, advances nursing excellence through evidence-based education and professional development. This role empowers nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by fostering lifelong learning and supporting clinical competency across inpatient Behavioral Health service lines. The NPDS promotes a culture of safety, therapeutic engagement, trauma-informed care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What You Will Do:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programsthat support clinical competency, onboarding, and continuing education for Behavioral Health nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to assess learning needs and develop targeted strategies that strengthen Behavioral Health clinical practice.
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource, guiding nurses in evidence-based practice, trauma-informed approaches, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to integrate best practices and regulatory standards-including those related to psychiatric care, seclusion/restraint reduction, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention-into nursing education and daily workflows.


Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
  • Current and valid Connecticut RN license.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a strong preference; near requirement. BSN candidates will only be considered if they are actively pursuing an MSN or higher degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Behavioral Health inpatient specialty/service lines. This will include, but is not limited to, patient populations surrounding: Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Psychiatric and/or Substance Abuse Disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting clinical competency or professional development in Behavioral Health care environments.

Preferred:
  • Experience in staff education or professional development (strong preference; nearly required).
  • Familiarity with APNA (American Psychiatric Nurses Association) and PMHN (Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing) standards and practices.
  • Ability to design and conduct simulation-based training, particularly for psychiatric emergencies, de-escalation, and crisis response.
  • Current BLS certification and advanced specialty certifications (e.g., PMH-BC, CPI, ACLS). Certification support will be offered post-hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective nursing education programs.

  • This is a salaried position with a range of: $83,304 to $133,328
