Job Description

The NPD Practitioner will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education programs with a focus on the Perioperative specialty. The Float NPD will focus on systemwide initiatives and support site-specific nursing professional development as needed. This dynamic position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the highest standard of patient care and the continuous growth of our healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Development of Educational Programs
  • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive educational programs tailored for nursing and clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams to identify specific educational needs and address gaps in knowledge and skills.
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements to integrate evidence-based practices into educational content.
  • NPD to provide system-wide support for educational initiatives (Periop 101, Clinical Advancement Program, Preceptor Program, Lippincott4 Solutions, Learning Management System, competency management system, onboarding and orientation of NPDs, etc.).


Facilitation of Learning
  • Act as a learning facilitator, creating an engaging and interactive environment for nursing staff to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Use innovative teaching methods to promote critical thinking and problem-solving.


Individual Guidance and Mentorship
  • Provide individual guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, supporting their professional growth and addressing specific educational needs.
  • Serve as a resource for nurses, offering expertise and assistance in navigating complex clinical scenarios.
  • Provide coverage for NPD vacancies (PTO/LOA) and plan remote educational opportunities for our clinical nurses and others in PCS.


Clinical Competence and Evidence-Based Practice:
  • Assess and ensure the clinical competence of nursing staff through ongoing evaluation and feedback.
  • Foster a culture of evidence-based practice within the hospital and healthcare system, encouraging staff to apply the latest research and advancements in their daily practice.


Collaboration with NPD Team:
  • Work closely with a system-wide team of NPD Practitioners to share best practices, collaborate on educational initiatives, and contribute to the overall advancement of nursing education.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in nursing professional development.


Required Qualifications
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
  • 2 years of pediatric nursing experience with clinical education and/or staff development experience
  • 3 years of perioperative nursing experience
  • National certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD) within 2 years from start date
  • RN in state of practice
  • BSN Degree


Preferred Qualifications:
  • MSN Degree


Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
