Position Summary

Under the direction of the Clinical Services Supervisor, the Nurse Supervisor is primarily responsible for supervising and managing the Centralized Follow Up (CFT) RNs while also maintaining an active clinical caseload. This role provides day to day leadership, performance oversight, and operational coordination for the CFT team, while also delivering timely and accurate case management follow up and direct reproductive health care to patients in accordance with Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs), CDC Guidelines, Clinical Policies and Procedures, and RN Standing Orders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties

  • Actively participate in the delivery of reproductive health services including abortion care. Participation can include, but is not limited to, referrals, information, education, counseling, dispensing, etc.
  • Responsible for reviewing clinical lab results and other diagnostics in Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to identify and follow-up on normal and abnormal results, utilizing PPSO policies and RN Standing Orders.
  • Follow and ensure current MS&G guidance for required follow up of abnormal labs, abnormal Pap results, breast and other referrals, abortion services and any other patient care requiring follow up per protocol.
  • Make nursing decisions based on RN scope as defined by Oregon Board of Nursing and standing orders of the Medical Director and Planned Parenthood, consulting the Clinical Services Supervisors, Medical Director, or assigned clinician as necessary.
  • Provide triage phone services to patients with individualized patient care.
  • Ensure the integrity of the patient record by ensuring all information is recorded and accurate.
  • Work with the Health Center Manager, Director of Patient Services, and the clinic medical staff to ensure that the clinic offers high quality, medically appropriate family planning services that are sensitive to the needs of our clients.
  • Adhere to procedures and protocols ensuring timely patient notification including the mailing of appropriate reminder letters.
  • Communicate with health center staff via EHR, telephone, Microsoft Teams chat or secure chat via Epic, and email as necessary for follow-up.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with clinicians and other health center staff to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Follow alternate procedures to maintain a follow-up system in event of EHR downtime.
  • Complete audits under the direction of the Quality and Compliance team as needed.
  • Manage and delegate NAD (Next Action Date) report to ensure follow-up is up to date and within MS&G guidelines.
  • Support the Follow-up Coordinator to ensure appropriate follow-up occurs for open/incomplete orders.
  • Assist in the development of systems to streamline patient follow-up processes and procedures.
  • Enter lab results into the EHR. Signing off on negative results and consulting on abnormal results outside of RN Standing order with a clinician.
  • Ensure outside lab results are received per PPFA standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Leadership and Management
  • Supervise CFT RNs with emphasis on leadership skills, and ability to lead change.
  • Provide consultation, problem solving, and monitoring of performance. Complete CFT staff performance evaluations.
  • Participate in the selection of personnel for the CFT department; recommend and implement training needs, employee corrective actions, probation or termination as indicated in personnel policies.
  • Coordinate scheduling of CFT staff and ensure time records are accurate and approved on time.
  • Ensure that new and existing CFT staff are fully trained and set up for success.
  • Serve as a role model to staff and peers in business ethics and clinic operations.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Current Oregon Nursing License, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Current BLS Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • At least one (1) year management or team leader experience.
  • At least one (1) year Case Management experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Spanish is preferred.
  • Previous work experience with a Planned Parenthood affiliate.
  • Experience with community Health or Women's Health.
  • Ambulatory or Urgent Care Experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of insurance types.
  • Proficiency with computers and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Travel & Availability Requirements

  • Will require occasional travel between different PPSO health centers in Southwestern Oregon.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from primary health center, or be willing to relocate.
