Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Healthcare Provider to conduct
Compensation and Pension (C&P) Examinations and
Separation Health Assessments (SHA) for Veterans and active service members transitioning out of the military.
In this non-treatment, chart-and-evaluate role, you will perform thorough health histories, medical record reviews, and physical examinations to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in evaluating service-connected disability claims. Key Responsibilities
- Disability Evaluations: Perform Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) for Veterans claiming service-connected health conditions.
- Separation Assessments: Conduct Separation Health Assessments (SHA) for military personnel exiting active duty.
- Record Review & Charting: Review detailed military and medical health histories using a cloud-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Physical & Diagnostic Exams: Perform comprehensive and focused physical evaluations. Order and interpret necessary labs, diagnostics, and ancillary services to substantiate claims.
- Medical Opinion Writing: Provide clear, official medical opinions based on examination findings and historical records.
- Timely Submission: Ensure accurate and complete charts/reports are submitted through the VA online portal within 24 hours of exam completion.
Daily Workflow & Schedule
- Exam Volume: See between 1 to 6 Veterans per day (depending on the length and number of DBQs per appointment).
- Exam Duration: Average appointment lengths range from 1.5 to 3 hours (longer, multi-condition exams may take additional time).
- Scope: 100% diagnostic evaluation and charting-no treatment, prescribing, or ongoing case management required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Credentials: Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) with an active, unencumbered state license.
- Experience: Strong background in physical assessment, medical history taking, and clear, detailed medical documentation.
- Technical Skills: Comfort working within cloud-based EHR software and secure online reporting portals. (Note: Candidates utilize clinic-provided systems; personal IT equipment is not issued).
- Attire: Professional presentation adhering to clinic standards (Scrubs, Business Casual/Traditional Business Attire, or conservative dress with closed-toe footwear).
