Job Description$170,560 per year | Full-timeIn this role you will be using your skills to provide patient-centered care within a secure correctional environment, collaborating closely with physicians, nursing leadership, mental health professionals, and custody staff to ensure timely access to medically necessary services, continuity of care, and appropriate clinical decision-making. Functions as a primary care and urgent care provider, delivering comprehensive medical services in accordance with MTC Medical and customer directives.
What you will do - Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment plans as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Perform medical evaluations including intake assessments, sick calls, chronic care management, and urgent/emergent care.
- Monitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions within scope of practice and state licensure.
- Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on detainees assigned to medical housing.
- Prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests in accordance with facility protocols and applicable regulations.
- Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, nursing staff, and mental health providers to support integrated, interdisciplinary care.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
- Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
- Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.
- Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
- Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
- Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, peer review, and chart audits.
- Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.
- Comply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts.
- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
- Requires long periods of walking and standing.
- Regular and predictable onsite attendance required.
- The incumbent is required to be on-call when directed to do so.
- Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.
- It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements: What you will need - Graduation from an accredited program and current licensure in the state of Arizona as a Nurse Practitioner, education related to the licensure, additional licenses or certifications (i.e. DEA registration),
- Current CPR certification, and US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident required.
- Two (2) to five (5) years' experience is highly desired, preferably in the correctional or detention environment or emergency medicine. Must successfully complete required preservice training.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
