Position DescriptionWe are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join the Division of Haematology/Oncology to provide leadership and promote excellence in family-centred nursing care through the five main NP role components of expert practice, education, research, consultation, and leader/change agent. This NP role will support the
Solid Tumour inpatient population. You will be a member of a high-functioning and collaborative multi-disciplinary team.
Here's What You'll Get To Do - Provide comprehensive health care to diverse patient populations cared for by the Solid Tumour section, including newly diagnosed patients, those on therapy and patients at the end of life.
- Care for highly complex patients including patients enrolled on early phase clinical trials, those receiving immunotherapy and patients receiving treatment in the division's MIBG suite.
- Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team that includes staff physicians, fellows, physician assistants, nurses, social workers, psychologists and physiotherapists.
- Work within an acute, inpatient care setting including 8A and associated satellite units (typically 5D or 6E).
- Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice.
- Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge.
- Assume a leadership role, influencing clinical nursing practice and the provision of high-quality, safe care.
- Drive care continuity as a consistent care team member on the unit and be an advocate and communication liaison for patients and families.
- Help guide child/family through their treatment course and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Opportunity to collaborate with the broader Haematology/Oncology inpatient team, providing occasional cross-coverage to other sections as needed.
- Opportunity for mentorship and professional development provided by interdisciplinary teams but also Advanced Practice Nurses within the Haematology / Oncology Program and wider hospital APN Council.
- Integrate research and quality improvement into practice.
- Identify and link to services and resources in community.
Here's What You'll Need Essential Requirements - Completion of a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the RN (Extended Class) in good standing
- 3 - 5 years of clinical nursing experience in pediatrics
- Previous experience in a leadership role providing mentorship and educational support, promoting continuous quality improvement and patient/team safety
- Ability to act as a change agent, and foster teamwork and consensus
- Innovative critical thinking with excellent communication, public speaking and problem-solving skills
- Adaptable to work within different team environments and clinical settings
- Knowledge of theoretical frameworks and research application
- Ability to cope with potentially challenging situations in terms of patients with a poor prognosis and those requiring end-of-life care
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
Assets- Experience in Haematology/Oncology, chemotherapy administration, and palliative care is an asset
- Requirement for GCP training and training on individual study protocols
