Schedule: 8:30am-5:00pm, Sunday-Thursday OR Tuesday-Saturday

Reporting to the Senior Program Director the Nurse Manager is responsible for leading members of the multidisciplinary team to meet the health needs of patients. The position is responsible for leading the activities and daily operations of all health services activities of the assigned Phoenix House program. It includes health assessment, communicable disease control, state-mandated screenings, first aid, and disaster preparedness, immunization follow-up, utilization of approved community resources, and health education of students (if applicable) and staff. Clinical and administrative supervision is exercised over Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Medical Assistants (MA) and other staff associated with nursing duties, or the maintenance of nursing-related clinical records. The Nurse Manager provides training, reviews policies and procedures with supervisees to remain in compliance with the medical standards set forth by Phoenix House and the Federal Government, State of California, the governing County, and other contract partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to all components of the above position summary the following "Essential Duties and Responsibilities" are essential to successful performance in this position
  • Arranges and assists in the provision of on-site medical services conducted by the consulting physician/Nurse Practitioner.
  • Arranges off-site medical services as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of and communicates proper practices related to Nursing fundamentals.
  • Is knowledgeable about Communicable diseases including HIV, Pharmacology, and Nutrition and is able to direct supervisees as appropriate.
  • Assures the accurate and timely preparation and maintenance of all medical records and monitors the work of supervisees in partnership with the Sr Nursing Manager.
  • Responsible for overseeing and implementing self-administration of medication and that of his/her supervisees.
  • Provides client/patient care in accordance with program and individual treatment plans, which includes:
    • Monitors and reports the behaviors of clients/patients.
    • Ensures the safety of program participants.
    • Ensures incident reporting is completed timely and sent to Quality Assurance.
  • Oversees and creates opportunities for and teaches general life skills in the areas of health, fitness, and nutrition.
  • Responsible for training, assuring and maintaining confidentiality over all medical records.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining medical supplies and all facility first aid equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for maintaining medical office and for ensuring all medicines are safely and securely stored. Works in partnership with the Sr Nursing Manger to audit the medication room and make needed corrections at minimum monthly.
  • Arranges for additional medical services or health seminars both on and off-site, as needed.
  • Oversees and participates in the administration of tuberculosis tests to staff, as indicated by Phoenix House procedures.
  • Maintains all required reporting functions and assure 100% completion of all paperwork.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Oversees and provide Incidental Medical Services in facilities certified for these types of services. Reviews IMS requirements monthly.
  • Attends and ensures all supervisees attend all required staff training sessions in accordance with Phoenix House and state licensing requirements, completes all training on time
  • Attends and participates in program and all staff meetings
  • Adheres to and promotes the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values while acting as a role model for others
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS
  • BA or BS from an accredited college or university, and possession of a valid active California (CA) Vocational Nurse License and two years of experience.

Or
  • Associate of Arts degree (AA) from an accredited college, and possession of a valid active California (CA) Vocational Nurse License. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must maintain a valid credential (if required for your position) during the course of your employment.
  • Must obtain TB test clearance and update on a yearly basis.
