The manager of Infusion Services reports to the Director of Ambulatory Oncology. The infusion manager is responsible for the daily operations of the infusion program. Responsible to recruit, train, and mentor nurses to become competent in the administration of chemotherapy, biologic and targeted agents, hydration, and transfusion of blood products, antibiotics, etc. The manager must have extensive experience working with oncology and medically complex patients. The manager will work in the infusion room providing safety, guidance, overall direction, and management of patients requiring infusions.

The nurse manager serves as an expert clinician and role model in the ambulatory infusion and oncology program. Works collaboratively with physician(s) to manage the health care needs for this patient population. Oversees and assists directly with review and assessment of referred patients to the infusion room requiring acute medical attention and ensures full and proper authorization is in place to treat patients. Partners with the District Medical Director of Infusion, Medical Director of Medical Oncology and Administrative Director of Ambulatory Oncology to serve as liaison for area and county medical and oncology personnel and medical staff within Palomar Health Medical Center. Is responsible to maintain excellent patient relationships and address patient and family concerns. Supports leadership and staff to meet and exceed patient experience goals in the Infusion program; and leadership of performance improvement projects which serve to enhance processes and care and in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Plan. Provides ongoing education and training to staff to ensure the safety and administration of new biotherapies, or targeted agents. Provides oversight and monitoring of accuracy, quality and timely completion of required nursing clinical documentation which complies with regulatory standards of CDPH, CMS and Joint Commission; and Palomar leadership. Provides education and support to the patients and families regarding their condition and ongoing management of their care. Actively participates to meet and exceed staff engagement, facility quality metrics, and district goals. Functions as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate efforts across the health system that maximize clinical and financial outcome.

Using a collaborative approach, assures mutual cooperation of the multidisciplinary team supporting the goals for the shared patient. Active recruitment and retention skills are essential. Uses critical thinking in planning, priority-setting, and decision-making while ensuring positive working systems exist to support the staff's ability to meet patient needs. Is a role model inspiring others through displayed optimism, provides intellectual stimulation, and encourages follower creativity. Requires 24-hour accountability.

Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: BSN or Master's Degree in a healthcare related field (to also include MBA)

Preferred Education: Master's and above

Minimum Experience: 5 years related clinical oncology experience as an RN

Preferred Experience: 2 years progressive management, experience in administration of chemotherapy

Required Certification: American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
ONS Chemotherapy Certification within 1 year of hire
Must have ONS Chemo Provider Card

Preferred Certification: Certification in specialty area of practice or role

Required License: Current CA RN License
