Position Summary

Morehouse Healthcare is currently seeking a Nurse Manager for the Student Health and Wellness Clinic. The Nurse Manager is committed to the mission and vision of Morehouse Healthcare to "provide excellent quality, multidisciplinary healthcare to the community" and that of the AUCC-SHWC to "provide quality health care services to students of the Atlanta University Consortium Center."

As a Registered Nurse (RN) with demonstrated expertise in nursing, leadership, and management of clinical operations, this position will direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The Nurse Manager works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, campus and community stakeholders to assure the delivery of quality patient care and promote professional development, continuous quality improvement, education, and research.

This position will be responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the clinic, while ensuring quality patient care and professional leadership of staff. Key components of their role also include planning for and supporting adequate staffing and facilitating a professional work environment utilizing a team approach.

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, master's degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (4) years of related experience, preferably in a clinical setting, to include three (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience working in a college health setting preferred
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of management
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations.

Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Records preferred

Description of Job Duty


Administrative and Operational Responsibilities:

  • Serve in an administrative and clinical capacity with relation to overall clinical operations
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of the delivery of clinical support services to Morehouse Healthcare Clinical practices
  • Works collaboratively with the medical director, associate medical director and other MHC administrative staff in ensuring efficient clinic operations
  • On an ongoing basis, manages performance and communicates with employees regarding standards of practice, standards of care, respect for people and department/organization policies and procedures.
  • Supports the growth and development of staff (in areas such as teamwork decision making, service recovery and clinical skills) by identifying strengths and areas of growth, assisting with goal setting as well as formal and informal learning and coaching.
  • Directs and develops leadership and management skills by mentoring and role modeling
  • Actively listens to staff ideas and concerns, assess the communication styles of others, and adapt to them
  • Role models service excellence in interactions with AUCC students, parents, and clinic staff
  • Role models cultural sensitivity and humility in interactions with diverse staff, patients, and stakeholders
  • Excellent public speaking skills required for outreach activities, including delivering presentations to AUCC schools
  • Ensures clinic equipment maintained and functioning and schedules for annual medical maintenance
  • Builds and manages clinic schedules of providers and clinical staff in PNC
  • Participates in the writing, reviewing, updating, and implementing of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Collaborates with others in co-management of STI clinic
  • Plans and implements monthly the AUCC-SHWC Professional Development Series
  • Leads and /or key participant in strategic planning
  • Plays an active role in preparing the clinic for accreditation
  • Participates on various committees within MSM (e.g., compliance committee)


Clinical Practice and Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assures patient nursing care provided is within Morehouse Healthcare's (MHC) established standards and is evidence-based best practice
  • Supervises nursing and other assigned employees within the department
  • Supervises ordering of medical equipment, office supplies, and medications
  • Fills in to room patients and assist providers as needed
  • Fills in and/or assists RN with all RN duties outlined in RN job description
  • Provides assistance with the overall administrative direction of MHC clinical site
  • Oversees core service delivery activities - nursing services, and office support operations
  • Directs staffing and adjusts as necessary to reflect changes in care requirements, patient volume, and available staffing resources
  • Oversees nursing service activities related to scheduling, assignments, clinical staff, evaluation and training, and patient care by providing clinical leadership to LPNs, CMAs, and staff RNs.
  • Oversees orientation of new nursing staff and directs them as they complete required clinical competencies
  • Administers and/or supervises the administration of medications and treatments as ordered by provider(s), including physicians and advanced practice providers (i.e., NP's, CNM's, PA's).
  • Assists with immunization compliances for AUCC students
  • Collaborates with Wellness Coordinator, epidemiologist, and community organization in management of STI clinic
  • Assists with timely review and patient notification of diagnostic studies (i.e. lab and other test results) in unit.
  • Analyzes clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency in collaboration with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members as appropriate
  • Handles all Time Management (Kronos) for assigned clinical staff
  • Monitors for regulatory compliance (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, etc.)
  • Oversees risk management and patient safety activities on unit in collaboration with the epidemiologist
  • Oversees unit maintenance and contacts building facilities as needed
  • Oversees student communication to clinic through various means (email, phones, faxes, PNC) and ensures timely response
  • Fills in for staff RN when they are absent


Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Manages fiscal responsibilities; approves and oversees budgetary recommendations related to the back-office operations and works with the Director of Practice Operations to comply with fiscal requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with revenue team and others to ensure fiscal accountability and frugality
