The Role at a GlanceWe are excited to be seeking a highly motivated
Nurse Disability Consultant to our clinical organization. This position will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting medical information available for disability claims.
Background Details
As a Nurse Disability Consultant, you will act as a clinical resource for Group Protection benefit specialists and claim professionals. You will evaluate medical information to clarify diagnoses, evaluate the severity of medical conditions, validate medical restrictions and limitations, and estimate duration of recovery. What you'll be doing- You will maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assess the impact, and collaborate with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
- You will evaluate medical information to clarify diagnoses, evaluate the severity of medical conditions, validating medical restrictions and limitations, and estimating duration of recovery.
- You will clarify, interpret and/or evaluate medical information to assess appropriateness of current and ongoing restrictions / limitations and level of impairment
- You will identify pertinent clinical facts and answers questions in collaboration with benefits specialists and physician consultants
- You will act as a clinical resource to Group Protection claim professionals during claim meetings and as needed.
- You will recommend specific medical information needed to evaluate ongoing levels of impairment and to facilitate optimal claim management.
- You will make appropriate referrals to external clinical resources (i.e. IME, FCE, Peer Reviews).
- You will discuss complex medical issues with health care providers as needed and documents outcomes of discussion.
- You will coordinate and partner with Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinators (VRC) and others to support with return-to-work services.
- You will effectively manage assigned caseload within department productivity goals.
- You will contact claimants, employers, and health care providers, as indicated.
What we're looking forMust-have experience (Required):
- 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse - Current, unrestricted license in the state where the position is located (upon hire certificates/licensures).
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.
- Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates clear, concise communication skills when interpreting medical information, documenting rationales for clinical opinions, clarifying restrictions/limitations, assisting with return to work and communicating with staff, mgmt. & other stakeholders
Nice-to have experience (Preferred):
- Associates or bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- 3-5 years of nursing experience with preferred clinical nursing expertise in Emergency Room, Critical Care, Orthopedics, Coronary Care, or trauma.
- Previous insurance industry experience preferred.
- Experience and/or proficiency with Disability Management (STD/LTD), Workers Compensation, Utilization Review and/or nurse case management preferred skills

The pay range for this position is $72,900 - $131,600 with
anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
