Responsibilities

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.

  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other healthcare workers, etc.
  • Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.

Clinical Quality:
  • Assesses, plans, and evaluates and ensures the implementation of the patients care to achieve identified outcomes and delivers safe patient care according to facility policy and procedure.
  • Assesses patient status on admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patient's own goals. Goals are mutually set with the patient and the family.
  • Coordinates interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge.
  • Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.
  • Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations.
  • Transports patients to procedure room, apply necessary monitors on patient, and transport patient to recovery and give a complete report to the recovery nurse.
  • Assist with pain management, under the direction of the anesthesiologist/physician.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the provision of quality nursing care for patients receiving care.
  • Analyzes anesthesia care provided in the facility related to the established standards of care.
  • Participates on Quality Council/Performance Improvement Committee to facilitate improvement of nursing care and achievement of mission of the facility as applicable.
  • Participates in developing standardized patient education programs as requested.
  • Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based on age-specific needs utilizing developmental perspective.
  • Displays an understanding of each patient's cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in the assessment, treatment and care undertaken.
  • Appropriately modifies approach to the patient based upon patient age utilizing a developmental perspective.
  • Provides appropriate interventions related to safety issues.
  • Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of anesthesia care provided.
  • Demonstrates ability to coordinate the nursing care provided in the facility.
  • Demonstrates appropriate and continued knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
  • Administer anesthesia under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist/credentialed physician.
  • Consults with anesthesiologist/physician regarding anesthesia care plan.
  • Teamwork/Accountability/Integrity:
  • Utilizes time effectively.
  • Follows established facility policies and procedures with regard to attendance.
  • Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by facility.
  • Adheres to tardiness policy.
  • Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures as noted by supervisor.
  • Requests scheduled time off according to procedure as noted by supervisor.
  • Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
  • Documents nursing anesthesia care and physicians orders according to facility policy and best practice guidelines.
  • Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates to competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.
  • Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
  • Completes all Teammate/patient event and Variance documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by policy.
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for facility.
  • Practices infection control, standard precautions and universal precautions as instructed or trained.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a neat, organized manner.
  • Completes appropriate financial management responsibilities.
  • Provides input re: equipment needs/supply needs.

  • Attends unit-based staff meetings and demonstrates review of minutes for any meetings missed.

Qualifications

  • Has successfully completed the program at an accredited school of nursing with a current state nursing license.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Anesthesia for nurses.
  • Board certification (recertification) by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Council on Recertification.
  • Prior experience in an ambulatory surgery center is preferred.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is preferred, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Practicing CRNA with appropriate continuing education recertification.
