As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, your typical work assignments may include:
- Performing advanced Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging procedures using a wide variety of gamma and positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals to study organ perfusion, metabolism, receptor function, tumor distribution, etc., in Clinical Center patients.
- Drawing, calibrating and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients; positioning and monitoring subjects to obtain accurate scans.
- Recognizing errors or technical abnormalities in images, and radioactivity measurements, and takes action to correct equipment or software malfunction at the direction of the department physicist.
- Participating in the execution of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT clinical and research projects in patients under the direction of staff physicians.
- Operating computer software on multiple Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT scanner/computer systems.

QualificationsTo qualify for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist GS-0642:You must have:(1) successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the credentialing standards described in 42 CFR Part 75 that is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education,
AND(2) be certified as a radiographer in Nuclear Medicine.
The following meets the above standards:1. Persons employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel prior to January 13,1986 who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
2. Persons first employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State of foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation,
OR(b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
Additional Qualifications requirements:You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.) Performing advanced Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging procedures using a wide variety of gamma and positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals to study organ perfusion, metabolism, receptor function, tumors, and other physiological processes; 2.) drawing, calibrating, and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients in accordance with established protocols; 3.) operating Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT scanner/computer systems and associated imaging systems to acquire, process, and troubleshoot diagnostic imaging data; 4.) performing and troubleshooting the transfer of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging data from acquisition systems and RIS databases to PACS or other image archiving systems; 5.) operating ancillary Nuclear Medicine and PET equipment, including computerized gamma well counters, to perform quality control and support PET imaging operations.

Additional information- This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
- The incumbent will be exposed to low levels of gamma and beta radiation, radioactive sources, radiopharmaceuticals, and patients who have received radioactive materials for imaging purposes.
