As a senior member of the Strategic Implementation team within the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) of State Street Investment Management, you will lead a team of project managers and drive the most strategic, high-complexity, cross-functional initiatives happening across State Street Investment Management.

Our purpose is to enable the business to deliver transformational change, whether driven by growth ambitions, regulatory or industry change, evolving client needs, or internal efficiency and modernization needs. Projects are managed within a robust Change Management Framework to ensure adherence to relevant governance and oversight controls.

We are hiring for a North America Strategic Implementation Lead (Vice President III) based in Boston for the Strategic Implementation team. The successful candidate will be an experienced people leader responsible for managing a team of project managers, overseeing a portfolio of large, complex programs with multiple interdependent workstreams, and partnering with senior leadership to shape and execute the strategic agenda. This is a full-time role with 4 days in the office expected per week and 1 day of remote work.

What you will be responsible for

Leadership & People Management:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of project managers, setting clear performance expectations, providing feedback through regular 1:1s and the annual performance management process, and fostering career growth through mentoring, stretch assignments, and development planning.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing, inclusive team culture that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.
  • Manage resource allocation across the team's portfolio, balancing workload, matching skills to initiatives, and ensuring effective succession planning and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as a role model for State Street Investment Management's leadership behaviors and help to drive a change management mindset across the organization.

Complex Program & Project Management:

  • Oversee a portfolio of large-scale, cross-functional programs with multiple interdependent workstreams, competing priorities, and significant enterprise-wide impact.
  • Provide strategic direction on program structure, sequencing, prioritization, and governance, ensuring initiatives adhere to the State Street Investment Management Change Management Framework.
  • Lead the most complex, ambiguous, or high-risk initiatives directly, including new and different innovation efforts, target operating model design, and other strategic efforts.
  • Actively collaborate and facilitate discussions with business functions across State Street Investment Management, other State Street business lines, and external partners to deliver programs on time, on budget, and to expected quality standards.
  • Establish and evolve program structures that drive execution and ensure clear accountability and ownership across stakeholders spanning multiple geographies and functions.
  • Engage senior stakeholders to define outcomes, secure alignment, and drive the involved parties toward completion of deliverables, proactively resolving conflicts, removing barriers and escalating as needed. Build strong connections with stakeholders at all levels to ensure active engagement in program governance, solution design, decision-making and issue resolution.
  • Synthesize detailed updates across multiple workstreams into clear, concise communication to executive stakeholders
  • Identify and track risks to timelines, formulate data-driven remediation options and recommendations, seek and obtain stakeholder buy-in on path forward, and ensure completion of necessary actions.
  • Create and maintain program documentation aligned to the Change Management Framework, and continuously improve tools, templates, and standards used across the team.

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing project management teams
  • Proven track record with planning and leading large, complex, cross-functional programs with enterprise-wide impact
  • Strong executive communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and align senior stakeholders
  • Experience establishing an organized and structured approach to complex change initiatives with a solid awareness of business risk and controls
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with business, technology, and external partners
  • Comfort interacting with all levels of the organization, up to and including executive leadership
  • Experience establishing clear accountability and ownership for program deliverables across teams, while modeling accountability for own work and team outcomes
  • Ability to act with urgency, respond to shifting priorities, make sound decisions with ambiguous information, and keep critical plans on course
  • Talent to drive creative thinking and collaboration to surface strategic solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to think strategically while managing tactical execution across a portfolio of initiatives

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience within the finance or asset management industry
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience, including performance management and talent development
  • Business project and program management experience required
