Department: EmergencyThe Emergency Department is open 24 hours/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, pastoral care, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team
QUALIFICATIONSCertification/Experience/Knowledge:- Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Graduate of a recognized BScN Program required
- Masters of Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (within the last twelve months)
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (within the last twelve months)
- Coronary Care Course and/or Lead II Interpretation Course, 12 Lead Interpretation required
- Willingness to obtain ACLS and BCLS instructor's status
- Canadian Triage Acuity Scale Certification required
- 2-3 years' experience on a Medical/Surgical unit required
- Minimum of 5 years recent (within last 2-3 years) Emergency Department experience required
- Excellent demonstrated physical and psychosocial assessment and intervention skills required
- Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles combined with recent teaching experience (patient and staff education) required
- Knowledge / experience in education curriculum development, implementation and evaluation required
- Proven working knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice required

- Ability to participate in professional groups dedicated to excellence in nursing practice with the patient populations served required
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present educational material based on the principles of adult education required
- Excellent demonstrated flexibility, organizational and leadership skills required
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education is required
- Self-directed professional who functions with minimal supervision required
- Demonstrated team player required
- Critical problem solving and decision-making skills required
- Computer skills - keyboarding and software applications required
- Experience in policy and procedure development required
- Good attendance and work record required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and specialized Emergency Certification is an asset

- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
