Responsibilities

An Average Day: As the Network Specialist II you will support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of enterprise network infrastructure across secured environments. You will be responsible for monitoring network health, troubleshooting operational issues, maintaining reliable connectivity, and assisting with the implementation of network changes that support mission requirements. You will work closely with engineering, cybersecurity, and program teams to help sustain stable and secure network services in both routine and dynamic operating conditions. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Monitor daily network operations to help ensure availability, performance, and reliability across routing, switching, and connected infrastructure components.
  • Troubleshoot moderate network issues involving connectivity, routing behavior, interface performance, and device health, escalating more complex problems when needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities such as software updates, patching, configuration backups, and firmware upgrades within Cisco-based environments.
  • Support the administration of LAN, WAN, and data center network components, helping maintain consistent service across local and remote locations.
  • Assist with implementing network security controls, including firewall rule updates, VPN connectivity, access control measures, and port security configurations.
  • Use network monitoring and diagnostic tools to identify faults, review traffic patterns, and support corrective actions that improve operational stability.
  • Document network configurations, change activity, incident resolution steps, and standard operating procedures to maintain accurate technical records.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity and compliance stakeholders to help maintain adherence to federal security requirements and internal operational policies.
  • Support the installation, testing, and turnover of network hardware and related technologies as part of infrastructure refreshes or capability enhancements.
  • Provide technical support during incident response and planned maintenance windows, contributing to timely service restoration and minimal mission disruption.
  • Travel may be required to provide operational support for domestic and international network operations.
Qualifications
  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C).
  • Must havean active Secretclearancewith the ability to obtain aTop Secret with SCI eligibility or have an active Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
  • Will be subject to a federal background investigation.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting network operations, administration, or sustainment in an enterprise or mission-focused environment.
  • Bachelor27s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered where appropriate.
  • Must hold a current DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification such as Security+ CE, CySA+, SSCP, CND, GSEC, or other qualifying credential.
  • Working knowledge of routing and switching fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, subnetting, and dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, or BGP.
  • Experience supporting Cisco network devices and platforms, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco IOS and, where applicable, NX-OS environments.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, or comparable enterprise management systems.
  • Familiarity with network security technologies and practices, including ACLs, IPSec VPNs, 802.1X, firewalls, and intrusion detection or prevention capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze technical issues, follow structured change processes, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams in a secure operational setting.
  • Must be able to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally, international travel will require a current US Passport.
Pay Transparency StatementAMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $95,000.00/Yr. - USD $145,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
