Job SummaryThe Network Monitoring System Engineer will architect, evolve, and optimize enterprise network monitoring solutions to enhance visibility, reliability, and operational efficiency. This role involves leading event correlation, topology modeling, and root cause analysis strategies while ensuring monitoring platforms align with mission and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Architect enterprise monitoring solutions to improve visibility and efficiency
- Lead event correlation, topology modeling, and root cause analysis strategies
- Evaluate monitoring tools (SMARTS, NetOps, SL1, Netcool) for mission alignment
- Drive NOC improvements including alarm reduction and actionable alerting
- Design service-aware monitoring mapping infrastructure events to business impact
- Integrate monitoring platforms with SIEM/SOAR tools (Splunk)
- Develop standards for configuration, data quality, and performance
- Identify automation opportunities including AIOps and predictive analytics
- Mentor engineering teams to shift toward outcome-driven monitoring
- Support troubleshooting and guide teams to true root cause res olution
Required Qualifications- 10+ years in network monitoring, engineering, or NOC operations
- Hands-on with at least one major platform: VMware SMARTS, Broadcom DX NetOps, ScienceLogic SL1, IBM Netcool
- Expertise in event correlation, alarm management, topology modeling, and root cause analysis
- Knowledge of WAN/LAN, firewalls, load balancers, hybrid cloud networks
- Experience integrating monitoring tools with Splunk or similar SIEM platforms
- Proven ability to reduce alert noise and increase actionable intelligence
- Strong communication skills to articulate technical impact in business terms
Preferred Qualifications- 10+ years supporting federal government environments or large-scale enterprises
- Familiarity with AIOps platforms (Dynatrace, Datadog, Elastic, LogicMonitor)
- 10+ years with automation and scripting (Python, APIs)
- Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture and enterprise logging (M-21-31 alignment)
- Experience in high availability environments with compliance and security requirements
Certifications- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent) preferred
