Summary

This vacancy is for a GS-2210-12, Network IT Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, C5ISC NETWORK SECTION in ALEXANDRIA, Virginia.

Duties

Help

You will serve as an Network IT Specialist and be responsible for managing information technology projects.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Network knowledge, to include concepts, configuration, experience for routine tasking during the workday.
  • Compliance knowledge for cybersecurity and accreditation support for frequent tasking during the workday.
  • Baseline and change management experience to support for frequent tasking during the workday.
  • Communication and coordination with internal and/or external customers for Customer Service for frequent tasking during the workday.
  • Managing information and documentation changes to support network changes, compliance, and communication for occasional tasking during the workday.
  • Able to self manage and proactively address problems before they have escalated and/or caused a critical outage event.


Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.

A. Federal Acquisition Certification for Program and Project Managers Level I (FAC P/PM-I) or management determined equivalent within two years of entry into the position.

B. Information Assurance Management Level II (IAM-II) or management determined equivalent within two years of entry into the position.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Demonstrating network knowledge through configuration changes to routers and switches and completes Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tickets in a timely manner.
  • Enabling baseline and change management industry best practices for network tasking.
  • Managing cybersecurity and accreditation using the Risk Management Framework (RFM) for industry compliance. Provides documentation and facilitates continuous monitoring to maintain the Authority-To-Operate (ATO) for network systems.
  • Communicating with internal and external customers, and stakeholders, to coordinate requirements, outages or other network events. Provides timely response to submitted tickets and status updates.
  • Completing documentation for network changes, compliance reports, and communication and advocates for the timely execution to the collective network team.
  • Establishing working knowledge of network connectivity and hardware platforms and displays ability to proactively address problems before they have escalated and/or caused a critical outage event. Operates in the ITSM tiered escalation model in accordance with industry best practices.


In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement, you must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Student Loan -
Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.
