Network Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the stability, security, performance, and availability of agency network systems, including routers, switches, wireless access points, VPN solutions, internet connectivity, and related communications infrastructure. Assists with troubleshooting network and application connectivity issues, supports disaster recovery planning and testing, researches and evaluates new network technologies, and works with internal teams and external vendors to ensure reliable and secure network operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Design, implement, maintain, and support the agency's voice, data, and wireless networks.
• Configure and maintain Cisco routers, switches, VPNs, and related network infrastructure.
• Administer and maintain the agency's wireless network, including access points, controllers, security, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Monitor network performance and resolve connectivity and availability issues.
• Support network security controls and ensure compliance with agency standards.
• Coordinate with service providers and vendors on network upgrades, outages, and support activities.
• Assist with disaster recovery planning, testing, and implementation for network systems.
• Create and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and procedures.
• Research, test, and recommend network technologies and infrastructure improvements.
• Work with appropriate IT staff to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited two-year college or technical institute with a major in data processing, computer science, or other related acceptable field.
• Four years direct networking experience in a multi-server environment, evidenced by substantial full-time increasingly responsible professional information systems networking.
• Cisco Certified Network certification a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
• Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet; able to effectively adapt to and use other computer systems as needed for daily activities, with specific knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies as shown below.
• Implementation and design experience with Internet proxy setup, Cisco firewalls, routers and switches, including multiple Demilitarized Zones (DMZs), Internet Protocol (IP) addressing with Network Address Translation/Port Address Translation (NAT/PAT), Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions, and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
• Working knowledge and experience in failover data center scenarios and WAN data replications.
• Knowledge of current business practices and principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Builds and maintains positive relationships with internal and external constituents.
• Strong organizational skills.
