Network Engineer

Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD
Type: Hybrid (Up to 40 hours/week in-office as needed)
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually

Position Overview

Fairwinds is looking for innovators who can successfully execute across multiple disciplines as part of a small business environment. An ideal candidate would be an out-of-the-box thinker, develop innovative solutions, and provide expertise in an IP connected environment across RF Tactical & Naval Military Solutions to strategic border protection Applications. This would include experience in communications systems, IP-networking & test engineering including SATCOM and terrestrial wireless transmission systems integrated with Software Defined Networking.

Work under the Chief Product & Technology Office to define Integrated Tactical Network Engineering Design Investments and develop multiple systems of system design solutions and configurations for customers across the communications spectrums. Ability to design and implementation of flexible open standard interfaces for tactical applications. Looking for someone that can interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify their subject matter expertise towards overall system design for new cutting-edge technologies and identify current issues and correct those to the customers' satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in systems engineering design and development.

- Ability to not shy away from technical challenges and an approach of how it can be done, not how it can't be done.

- Ability to brief non-technical Senior Leadership with experience briefing on highly technical matters.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science in Computer, Software, Electrical, Electronics, Network Science, or Systems Engineering. Or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. [BD1]

- 2 years' experience with designing integrated networked solutions for rapid prototyping and quick reaction communications systems.

- Understanding of materials science and thermal management engineering.

- Understanding of open system interfaces and the challenges involved in integrating systems from different manufacturers.

- Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Security+, VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification[BD2]

- Experience with SATCOM, Terrestrial Wireless/Radio, & SD-WAN Aggregation Systems.

- Experience with cyber security infrastructure.

- Experience writing Technical White Papers

- US Citizen

- Active Secret or higher DoD Security Clearance

Additional Preferred Qualifications

- Master of Electrical or Systems Engineering - Or equivalent

- 5 years' experience in development of integrated system designs utilizing multiple transmission means including Mobile SATCOM Systems.

- 2 years' experience with Pacstar Smart Chassis Systems

- A background in scientific programming using languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Python, Rust, or Julia

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not supervise others.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a traditional office environment. Some Remote/Hybrid work is also possible.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position, working Monday through Friday; 40 hours per work week; occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Some flexibility in actual work hours may be offered.

Travel

Must be willing to travel 25-30% when required.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be eligible to work in the US and possess or obtain a Secret level clearance
