About the Opportunity
DMI is seeking a Network Engineer to provide implementation and operational support for secure network infrastructure at a federal agency client. You will work within a Cisco-based enterprise environment supporting the configuration, hardening, and continuous monitoring of network infrastructure in alignment with Zero Trust principles and federal cybersecurity standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support implementation, operation, and optimization of Cisco-based network infrastructure, including core, distribution, access, and edge layers
- Implement and maintain network security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-207 Zero Trust Architecture
- Configure and manage routing, switching, and network services, including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs; maintain secure configurations aligned with organizational standards
- Manage 802.1X port-based network access control to enforce authentication at the network edge
- Configure and maintain centralized logging for all network devices; ensure log forwarding to enterprise SIEM platforms in compliance with retention requirements
- Conduct continuous monitoring and vulnerability assessments of network infrastructure; coordinate remediation in alignment with NIST RMF
- Participate in change management processes; maintain network diagrams, SOPs, and configuration documentation
- Serve as technical advisor for complex service desk escalations; collaborate with cloud, Microsoft, and cybersecurity engineering teams
- Support incident response activities, including network-level analysis, containment actions, and forensic data collection
Qualifications
Education and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Professional certifications in network engineering or cybersecurity, maintained continuously for a minimum of 5 years
- Experience implementing NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-207 Zero Trust Architecture in enterprise network environments
- Proficiency with Cisco routing, switching, and firewall platforms; hands-on experience with VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs
- Experience implementing and managing 802.1X network access control
- Experience in configuring network device logging and forwarding logs to enterprise SIEM platforms
- Cisco CCNP or equivalent certification
- 3+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Experience supporting incident response and forensic data collection ^
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification
- Prior experience supporting federal government network environments
Background Requirements: Must possess or be eligible to obtain and complete a Public Trust background investigation and/or a Public Trust clearance.
- Public Trust Tier 2 clearance required.
