Position: Network Automation Engineer I/II
Level: Mid

Location: San Diego, CA

Telework: Hybrid remote/onsite, with typical set schedule at Government facility

Travel:
Salary: $102,000 - $135,000

XSITE LLC is looking for a Network Automation Engineer I/II to join our teamin San Diego, CA to support PMW 160.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering and sustainment support for fielded shipboard networks, including troubleshooting, maintenance, configuration updates, and performance optimization.
  • Support upgrades to network baselines and ensure compatibility, compliance, and reliability across multiple deployed configurations.
  • Implement, configure, troubleshoot, and sustain Cisco ISE and Network Access Control (NAC) solutions.
  • Support technologies and protocols including 802.1X, MAB, AAA, RADIUS, TACACS+, TrustSec, C3PL, licensing, and endpoint profiling.
  • Evaluate, mitigate, implement, and validate applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) on network appliances and shipboard systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance network automation tooling, including Ansible playbooks, PowerShell scripts, and similar automation workflows.
  • Troubleshoot network issues across Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, AnyConnect/Secure Client, and related technologies.
  • Support engineering analysis and resolution of baseline-specific issues affecting shipboard network deployments, including CANES and similar Navy environments.
  • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support iterative improvements to deployed transport systems using Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Participate in configuration and change management processes, ensuring appropriate documentation, technical review, testing, and approval of sustainment updates.
  • Develop and maintain configuration documentation, sustainment procedures, technical guides, and other engineering artifacts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and Navy Program Management Offices to support sustainment, modernization, and upgrade activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years of professional experience in network engineering, systems engineering, network sustainment, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or other complex enterprise network environments strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE or other Network Access Control (NAC) technologies, including authentication, authorization, profiling, TrustSec, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong understanding of network security fundamentals and experience applying, evaluating, or validating STIGs.
  • Experience developing network or systems automation using Ansible, PowerShell, or similar scripting and automation technologies.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and ACLs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across multiple network baselines, configurations, and deployed environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes, Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), DevOps concepts, configuration management, and change management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced operational sustainment environment.
  • Active Secret security clearance required; TS/SCI preferred.


Education:

One of the following is required:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related technical discipline; or
  • An additional four years of relevant experience supporting the engineering of DoD systems in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting NAVWAR, NIWC Pacific, PEO C4I, or related Navy organizations and Program Management Offices.
  • Experience with PMW 160 programs, systems, or initiatives.
  • Direct experience supporting Navy tactical or shipboard network environments, particularly:
  • Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES)
  • Platform Application Services (PAS)
  • Agile Core Services (ACS)
  • Automated Digital Network System (ADNS)
  • Experience with lifecycle sustainment or modernization of fielded Navy systems.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
