Candidates should have experience managing and securing computing environments, including configuring Linux servers (Red Hat and/or Ubuntu), firewalls, VPNs, network switching equipment, and, most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

The candidate will join a team that provides a range of computer systems support to NASA at the Johnson Space Center including user support, security management, network design and operation, account management and provisioning, operation of IT infrastructure services, computing equipment setup, and subject matter expertise for NASA projects.

In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to clearly communicate technical concepts with customers and engineering stakeholders. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently design, implement, configure, secure, and maintain the full infrastructure stack supporting systems, including firewall, VPN, network switch, DNS, DHCP, and Linux end client configurations.
  • Support the full lifecycle of end-user and server systems, including procurement, operating system installation, security hardening, application deployment, and asset tracking.
  • Provide hands-on end-user support as needed, including troubleshooting, system fixes, and configuration updates to meet mission and project needs.
  • Coordinate with NASA service provider organizations to integrate and utilize enterprise services, including identity management, security services, and networking.
  • Configure and manage network infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, switches (Cisco or comparable), hardware testbeds, development labs, and isolated environments supporting spacecraft and simulation development.
  • Perform cybersecurity posture assessments, implement remediations, and ensure compliance with selected controls from NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5.
  • Develop, update, and maintain required cybersecurity documentation, including system security plans, network diagrams, interconnection agreements, disaster recovery plans, risk assessments, and incident documentation.
  • Design and implement system baselines and configurations that support mission-critical development while meeting NASA security and operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related disciplines required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration (RHEL and/or Ubuntu), networking, and cybersecurity tasks in a customer-oriented, fast-paced technical environment. Greater experience is valued.
  • Strong working knowledge of computer systems architecture including operating systems, networking, storage, firewalls, VPNs, and cybersecurity concepts. Ability to document system configurations, processes, and architecture clearly and accurately.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical teams, NASA stakeholders, and service provider organizations. Ability to work independently, manage multiple technical tasks, and adapt to changing requirements in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with standard technical tools and workflows, and familiarity with ticketing, tracking, or project coordination tools (e.g. Jira, ServiceNow, or similar).

Desired:

  • Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cyber Security, or Graduate level coursework or research involving information systems or cyber security.
  • Experience with NASA, DoD, or federal government security compliance frameworks, including FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and related cybersecurity documentation and assessment processes.
