Position Description & QualificationsThe AT/FP Ashore Sustainment Program is executed by the Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Public Safety Systems (PSS) Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) Ashore Program Management Office (PMO), in coordination with Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) and CNIC Regional Program Managers (RPMs). The program delivers preventive and corrective maintenance services to Navy installations worldwide to ensure AT/FP systems remain fully operational and aligned with mission requirements.
This position is based in San Diego, California, with a travel requirement of 50% or greater in support of CONUS and OCONUS operations.
As a Network Engineer supporting the Global Sustainment Contract at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific) Old Town Campus, you will provide advanced engineering, integration, and sustainment support to CNIC Public Safety Systems Ashore Programs. These programs are responsible for the design, procurement, integration, installation, and lifecycle sustainment of networked systems, hardware, firmware, and software that enable the protection of mission-critical assets and personnel from natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made threats.
In this role, you will:
- Engineer, configure, and sustain Juniper (EX, QFX, SRX), Aruba (switching and wireless), Cisco (Catalyst Switching and Routing), Antaira switching network and Cambium microwave solutions.
- Support end-to-end system lifecycle: staging, integration, testing, fielding, and sustainment
- Deploy and troubleshoot networks in:
- NIWC labs and integration environments
- Shore facilities and data centers
- Integrate new systems into existing PSS network
- Implement secure network architectures aligned with:
- Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
- Vendor specific security guidance
- Perform system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance validation
- Configure and maintain:
- VLANs, trunking, QoS, and redundancy mechanisms
- VPNs (IPSec), ACLs, and firewall policies
- Routing protocols (Static, OSPF, BGP)
- Support Aruba wireless deployments, including controller-based and distributed architectures
- Conduct site surveys, system installs, and operational verification testing during travel
- Maintain configuration baselines, diagrams, and technical documentation
- Interface with:
- Government customers/leads
- Program managers
- Serco and government cybersecurity and RMF teams
- Government Wide Area Network (WAN) Providers
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An active DoD Secret clearance.
- HS Diploma/GED
- Must meet DoD 8570 / 8140 baseline certification, such as:
- Security+ CE (minimum)
- OR higher (CISSP, CASP+, etc.)
- Juniper certifications (JNCIA or higher) or Cisco (CCNA or higher)
- 8 years of relevant network engineering experience (DoD or enterprise)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Juniper networking (Junos OS, EX/QFX/SRX platforms)
- Aruba switching and wireless (ArubaOS, Instant AP, Aruba Central)
- Cisco Switching and Routing (Catalyst, ISR) and Firewall (ASA, Firepower)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Layer 2 technologies (VLANs, STP, LACP)
- Routing (Static, OSPF, BGP)
- TCP/IP and Subnetting
- RADIUS Authentication
- Experience supporting mission-critical or classified systems
- Ability to work in field/deployed environments with minimal supervision
- Ability to support remote system with limited physical access
- Must have experience with the implementation of vulnerability remediation and STIG configurations for system hardening.
- Ability to multitask and teach or assist others to resolve systems related issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to create Standard Operating Procedure documentation for designs and implementation strategies for new hardware and software deployments
- Ability to produce system specifications, design requirements, test evaluation planning documents, and technical publications and reports
- Ability to support projects at client sites where working conditions may vary
- Ability to travel as necessary (50%)
