Full Job Description
Why This Job

The National Accounts Director, GCs plays a pivotal role in driving growth and customer success across CMC's product portfolio and lines of business. Acting as the single point of contact for assigned strategic accounts, this role ensures clear, streamlined communication and consistent, high-quality service across all touchpoints and product lines. The position orchestrates cross-functional collaboration, identifies high-impact project opportunities, and promotes the full value of CMC's offerings.

This individual will help shape a new way of doing business by leveraging the scale of CMC, fostering deeper customer relationships, and enabling enterprise-wide solutions that drive more holistic product delivery to projects and customers. The role reports directly to the Vice President of Commercial Growth & Development, Early-Stage Construction, providing strategic updates, operational insights, and support for high-impact initiatives.

This role is part of CMC's Early Stage Construction growth effort. It is focused on building deeper customer relationships, identifying qualified projects earlier, improving internal coordination, and moving the organization from transactional selling toward enterprise-level account management and project influence.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for strategic General Contractor customers involved in major construction projects across the U.S
  • Build multi-level relationships across the customer organization, including estimating, preconstruction, operations, procurement, project leadership, and executive stakeholders
  • Lead coordinated account plans that define customer priorities, project pipeline, relationship coverage, risk areas, and CMC growth opportunities
  • Bring the right CMC leaders and subject matter experts into customer conversations at the right time to improve alignment and decision speed
  • Create a consistent customer experience across CMC product lines, business units, and field touchpoints
  • Identify high-value projects earlier in the planning, design, estimating, or preconstruction process
  • Qualify opportunities using CMC's Ideal Project Profile, with a focus on margin-aligned opportunities rather than volume-only pursuits
  • Connect customer project needs to CMC solutions across reinforcing steel, fabrication, accessories, construction services, and other relevant offerings
  • Coordinate early project reviews with commercial, operations, technical services, and business leaders to determine fit, next steps, and internal ownership
  • Support project shaping conversations where CMC can add value through schedule certainty, constructability, product bundling, supply assurance, technical input, or simplified coordination
  • Promote cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across CMC's product and service portfolio where it creates clear customer and business value
  • Work across business lines to remove friction, align priorities, and create a more coordinated approach to strategic accounts
  • Translate account and project insights into actionable input for commercial strategy, product adjacency discussions, and growth priorities
  • Partner with Technical Services to support customer education, value engineering, scope clarification, and project-specific solution development
  • Understand and articulate the value proposition of CMC's offerings without requiring deep technical product expertise
  • Shares client insights, market trends, and competitive intelligence with business leaders across the enterprise
  • Deliver monthly account reports including project updates, market behaviors, risks, and competitor activity
  • Use customer feedback to improve CMC's account strategy, early-stage engagement model, and project qualification discipline
  • Use Salesforce to manage customer interactions, update projects, and assign actions across internal teams
  • Maintain accurate customer information and ensure all communications and activities are logged
  • Lead regular project review meetings with leadership to assess construction progress and resolve field challenges
  • Ensure coordinated internal support to reduce delays and rework
  • Conduct periodic business reviews to understand client strategy, pipeline, and where CMC can align to bring value and differentiation as a true partner
  • Monitor client engagement levels and satisfaction and implement strategies to deepen relationships and improve account traction and future project collaboration
  • Provide guidance and leadership to internal account teams and cross-functional contributors
  • Serve as a remote contributor, supporting fabrication operations and enterprise initiatives
  • Travel extensively to fabrication sites and partner locations to oversee project execution and ensure alignment with corporate goals

What You'll Need
  • Minimum 5 years' business development experience in a related service industry or successful track record as an account manager (for internal candidates)
  • Proven experience in strategic sales, key account management, or business development within the building products or construction industry
  • Demonstrated success managing large enterprise accounts across multiple business units
  • Strong understanding of General Contractor decision processes, preconstruction milestones, project pursuit cycles, and field execution considerations
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to present to executives and cross-functional teams
  • Experience navigating complex decision-making environments and understanding large project milestones
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM platforms
  • Ability to travel up to 80%
