Full Job Description
Overview

Yale University's Office of Public Affairs and Communications (OPAC) seeks a creative, curious, and audience-focused multimedia content producer to help engage broad audiences in the inspiring work, culture, and ambitions of Yale and its people. As media technologies and habits evolve, audiences increasingly expect compelling video, audio, graphics, and other storytelling forms designed for the platforms and environments where they already spend their time. This position will help OPAC meet audiences wherever they choose to encounter, engage with, and experience Yale's content.

Reporting to the chief communications officer for social media, the multimedia content producer will help advance both editorial and marketing initiatives, playing an important role in 1) the development and production of a new OPAC multimedia initiative featuring original video and podcast programming and 2) developing original content and formats for a range of digital, social, and marketing communications needs.

Working with the multimedia initiative's co-leads and with colleagues across OPAC, the producer will contribute to new programs and episodes, help identify compelling subjects and creative approaches, and develop related content that extends the reach and value of the programming across platforms. Marketing projects would serve a wide variety of university priorities and will likely include short-form and vertical video, multimedia explainers, social-first storytelling, original recurring series, adaptations of longer-form programming for different audiences and platforms, still and dynamic graphics supporting university campaigns and priorities, and experimentation with emerging formats and tools.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative communications team with expertise across news editorial, social media, photography, video, design, media relations, marketing communications, and other disciplines. The successful candidate will develop and pitch ideas and take ownership of projects approved by their manager and OPAC leadership.

The multimedia content producer will combine strong editorial instincts and professional production skills with an understanding of digital audiences and platform-native storytelling. The producer will contribute substantially to the new multimedia initiative while helping OPAC create engaging, audience-focused content for a variety of communications needs and exploring new approaches to digital storytelling.

Applicants must submit a digital portfolio demonstrating relevant creative work to be considered for this position.

This role offers a hybrid schedule. Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development, coordination, and production of a new OPAC multimedia initiative featuring original video and podcast programming. Work with the initiative's co-leads and other colleagues on program concepts, individual episodes, related digital content, and creative approaches for reaching audiences across platforms.

Work with colleagues to understand communications goals and determine compelling and appropriate ways to bring stories and university priorities to audiences.
  • Create content with specific audiences and platforms in mind, considering how format, length, framing, presentation, and storytelling approach can be tailored to the ways people discover, watch, listen to, share, and engage with content across digital environments.
  • Develop and pitch new multimedia concepts, formats, and storytelling approaches, bringing creativity and curiosity to OPAC's efforts to experiment, expand its storytelling, and find new ways to reach and engage audiences as existing platforms evolve and new ones emerge.
  • Contribute editorial and production skills throughout the creative process, including researching subjects, identifying story angles, writing or scripting as appropriate, and applying professional video, audio, producing, and editing skills to create high-quality finished work.
  • Extend stories thoughtfully across formats and platforms, identifying opportunities to develop short-form and vertical video, social-first content, audio clips, explainers, and platform-specific adaptations for different audiences.
