Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee and maintain production control planning and scheduling programs to meet sales forecasts and balance manpower and machine utilization.
  • Investigate deviations to production schedules and ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide accurate and timely customer order responses, ensuring that required schedules, materials, and systems are in place.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop production plans and forecasts.
  • Develop and adjust sales forecasts based on release information and market conditions.
  • Create strategies for efficient manufacturing and on-time product delivery to consistently meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain optimum inventory levels to balance customer demand with carrying costs and minimize premium freight.
  • Oversee changes in Bills of Material (BOM) with Engineering collaboration.
  • Develop and implement visual inventory management systems on the production floor.
  • Establish procedures and oversee annual physical inventory, including valuation and reconciliation.
  • Monitor inventory adjustments, conduct cycle counting, and integrate sales forecasts with inventory and budget planning.
  • Manage obsolete products and support Sales in removal activities.
  • Manage departmental expenses within budget and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong cross-functional and strategic relationships across all levels of management.
  • Motivate, coach, and develop staff to optimize performance and encourage personal/professional growth.
  • Identify and develop internal talent through mentoring and succession planning.
  • Maintain departmental Key Operating Procedures (KOPs) and ensure compliance with safety rules, UAWunion contracts, and plant policies.
  • Lead plant purchasing functions for both direct and indirect materials.
  • Drive departmental accountability through KPI tracking, action item follow-up, and achievement of plant metric targets.
  • Promote and integrate safety as a core responsibility alongside departmental objectives.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in inventory management, planning, scheduling, and distribution within a manufacturing environment.
  • Automotive supplier experience strongly desired.
  • Proven track record of team leadership and performance improvement.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain and manufacturing cost structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle/SAP preferred).
  • Ability to utilize complex reporting and data analysis tools effectively.

  • Achievement of overall departmental goals and objectives.
  • Employee training, coaching, and development plans.
  • Consistently high levels of plant customer satisfaction.
  • Inventory accuracy and effective inventory level management.
  • Documented continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Reduction of inventory adjustments and obsolete stock.
  • Support quality, environmental, and 5-S programs.

Education:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Operations, Logistics, or Engineering required.
  • MBA or master’s in supply chain management preferred.
  • APICS certification highly preferred; CPIM strongly recommended.
