Full Job Description
The MRI Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staff performance, and clinical activities of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) department. This position provides direct supervision of MRI technologists while maintaining an active clinical role by performing MRI procedures and participating in on-call coverage as needed. The MRI Supervisor ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational excellence within the MRI service line.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
• Supervise the daily workflow and operations of the MRI department.
• Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage for routine operations, weekends, holidays, and call responsibilities.
• Monitor department productivity, patient throughput, and quality metrics.
• Collaborate with Radiologists, physicians, nursing staff, and other departments to optimize patient care and imaging services.
• Assist with budgeting, equipment planning, and resource allocation.
• Participate in strategic planning and implementation of departmental goals and initiatives.
• Address patient, physician, and employee concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Lead departmental meetings and communicate organizational updates and expectations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Clinical Responsibilities
• Perform MRI examinations according to established protocols and physician orders.
• Ensure proper patient screening, preparation, positioning, and monitoring.
• Administer contrast agents in accordance with department policies and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain competency in advanced MRI procedures and emerging technologies.
• Provide direct patient care while demonstrating exceptional customer service and patient-centered care.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for MRI staff and students.

Call Coverage
• Participate in the MRI call rotation and provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage as required.
• Respond to emergent and urgent imaging needs within established response times.
• Assist with maintaining adequate call schedules to meet organizational service requirements.
• Provide clinical support and leadership during off-shift operations when necessary.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all MRI safety standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
• Monitor adherence to MRI Zone restrictions and safety screening procedures.
• Investigate and document incidents, safety concerns, and equipment issues.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement projects.
• Maintain compliance with The Joint Commission, ACR, CMS, state, and other applicable regulatory standards.
• Participate in accreditation preparation and survey readiness activities.

Staff Development and Performance Management
• Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of MRI staff.
• Conduct orientation, training, competency assessments, and ongoing education.
• Complete employee performance evaluations and coaching as required.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Support cross-training and professional development opportunities

Equipment and Resource Management
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and service activities for MRI equipment.
• Monitor equipment performance and communicate servicing needs promptly.
• Maintain adequate inventory levels of supplies and contrast materials.
• Assist in evaluating new equipment, software, and workflow enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
• Associate degree in Radiologic Technology required.
• Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Radiologic Sciences, or related field preferred.

Certifications and Licensure
• Registered Technologist credential through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
• Advanced ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• State licensure, if applicable.

Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of MRI clinical experience required.
• Previous leadership, supervisory, charge technologist, or lead technologist experience preferred.
• Experience with advanced MRI procedures and MRI safety practices required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of MRI imaging principles, protocols, and safety standards.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively manage staff performance and departmental operations.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality initiatives.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively during urgent and emergent situations.
• Proficiency with RIS, PACS, EMR systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Must be able to stand/walk for prolonged periods of time (Standing or walking approximately 70% of the time). Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Awareness of occasional exposure to infectious disease and to possible carcinogenic, mutagenic, and sensitizing medications. Minimal exposure to caustic agents, acids, and fumes

Pay Range:
$60.10 - $79.33

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
