We are seeking a technically driven Motor Application Engineer who is passionate about solving customer challenges, supporting industrial applications, and working with industry-leading motor technologies. This position offers significant exposure to customers, sales teams, product development, and emerging motor technologies.

Position Summary

The Motor Application Engineer serves as the technical expert supporting Toshiba's Low Voltage AC Induction Motor product portfolio. This role partners closely with customers, sales engineers, distributors, and internal engineering teams to evaluate applications, develop technical solutions, prepare quotations, and provide product recommendations that drive customer success.

The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with excellent communication skills and enjoys working directly with customers to solve complex industrial challenges. This position offers opportunities to influence product development, conduct technical training, support strategic projects, and contribute to business growth.

What You'll Do

Technical Application Support

  • Analyze customer requirements, specifications, and operating conditions to recommend optimal Low Voltage AC Induction Motor solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on motor selection, sizing, performance, efficiency, starting methods, and system integration.
  • Evaluate customer engineering specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Support quotation development by reviewing technical requirements and recommending appropriate products and configurations.
  • Assist customers, distributors, and sales teams during all phases of the sales cycle, from initial inquiry through commissioning and post-sale support.


Customer & Sales Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for customers, consulting engineers, EPC firms, distributors, and sales personnel.
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and training programs to customers and sales teams.
  • Support customer meetings, factory visits, conferences, and industry events.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and help resolve application, installation, and performance issues.


Product & Technical Development

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve technical challenges and improve products.
  • Participate in laboratory testing, product evaluation, and performance verification activities.
  • Assist in the development of new product specifications and technical enhancements.
  • Contribute to product documentation, application guides, white papers, technical papers, manuals, and marketing materials.


Market & Industry Knowledge

  • Develop expertise in Toshiba's motor product portfolio and complementary technologies including drives and automation solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor products, emerging technologies, industry trends, and market requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements including NEMA, IEEE, UL, CSA, IEC, API, and NEC.


Business Support

  • Support profitable growth through accurate technical recommendations and quotation support.
  • Review and approve quotations in accordance with company policies and authorization levels.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and special projects that support business objectives.


Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.


Required Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Product Engineering, Technical Support, Sales Engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, rotating machinery, electric motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), or power systems.
  • Ability to analyze technical requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience with AC induction motors, electric machine theory, motor applications, or industrial power systems.
  • Experience supporting customers in industrial markets such as manufacturing, oil & gas, water/wastewater, mining, metals, utilities, or material handling.
  • Familiarity with motor performance characteristics, efficiency standards, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with technical presentations, customer-facing engineering support, or sales support functions.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of motor applications and industrial power equipment.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NEMA, UL, CSA, IEC, API, and NEC standards.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software tools.


Travel

  • Travel up to 25% to 50% domestically, with occasional international travel as business needs require.
