Job Description Summary:Manage laboratory staff in performing routine and complex molecular based laboratory testing, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), qPCR, and nucleic acid isolation; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment needed to perform daily duties; performing daily QA/QC tasks; training new staff and cross train staff in other assay; assist with new test to be implemented in molecular laboratory with research and development; writing standard operating procedures along with QA analysts; maintaining records for CAP inspections and reinforcing laboratory policies. Assist laboratory director in managing clinical variant scientists and half of the responsibilities include analyzing NGS cases and reports, assisting with implementation of pipeline automation, metrics data collection for executives, and training incoming clinical scientist in analysis and reporting.
Demonstrates working knowledge of all facets of role, relevant regulations, and organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Performs all duties in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies and procedures
Position Qualifications/RequirementsEducation:
- Ph.D. in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, Biological Sciences; or M.S in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, Biological Sciences with at least 2 years of experience in clinical laboratories; or bachelor's with least 5 years of experience in clinical laboratories.
Certifications/Licenses:
- MB(ASCP) certification preferred, or required scheduling upon employment
- State of Florida clinical laboratory technologist license in the area pertinent to the testing being performed required (assistance and reimbursement with license will be provided)
- Valid state Driver's License for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings. Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy is required.
Previous Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of related experience in a clinical setting is required OR one year of full-time acceptable veterinary, industry, or research experience in molecular biology laboratory in the U.S. within the last five years.
- 5+ years' experience in a health care setting; Oncology experience strongly preferred.
- 3+ years' experience in a diagnostic laboratory, CAP/CLIA compliance, clinical report writing.
- Familiarity with human mutation databases, oncology-specific variant databases, genome browsers, and HGVS nomenclature.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, excellent communication and writing skills.
- Laboratory experience managing/supervising staff/team members

- Data governance knowledge of industry best practice and leading software providers to assist in data steward implementation, maintenance, and support.
- Familiarity with SSMS, SSRS, Power BI.
