Position Summary:
The Miscellaneous Metals Shop Foreman is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and supporting daily fabrication activities in a miscellaneous metals shop. This role ensures fabrication work is completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and on schedule while maintaining quality standards and customer expectations. The Shop Foreman leads shop personnel, coordinates with project management and detailing, and maintains accountability for productivity, quality, equipment, materials, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a shop foreman, lead fabricator, or supervisor in a structural steel or miscellaneous metals fabrication shop.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication drawings.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding procedures, layout, fit-up, and quality requirements.
• Experience supervising welders, fitters, laborers, fabricators, and machine operators.
• Ability to prioritize production schedules and adjust to changing project needs.
• Proficient with measuring equipment, fabrication tools, and shop equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in an industrial fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management:
• Assign daily work to fabrication personnel.
• Plan and sequence fabrication activities to maximize productivity.
• Monitor production schedules and help ensure deadlines are met.
• Review drawings before fabrication and resolve shop questions.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Detailers, Purchasing, and Field Superintendents.
• Monitor labor productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.

Shop Supervision:
• Lead daily production meetings.
• Supervise welders, fitters, laborers, and machine operators.
• Train, mentor, and support shop employees.
• Maintain accountability for attendance, performance, and work quality.
• Ensure employees follow company procedures, safety rules, and production expectations.

Quality Control:
• Verify fabricated products match approved shop drawings.
• Inspect dimensions, fit-up, weld quality, and finished assemblies.
• Identify and correct fabrication issues early to reduce rework.
• Maintain high workmanship and quality standards.

Safety:
• Enforce OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Conduct daily safety observations.
• Ensure proper PPE usage.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient fabrication shop.

Equipment and Material Management:
• Coordinate incoming materials and verify they match shop drawings and purchase orders.
• Maintain inventory of consumables and commonly used shop supplies.
• Ensure fabrication equipment receives routine maintenance.
• Coordinate equipment repairs as needed.

Communication:
• Maintain regular communication with Project Manager/Superintendent regarding production status.
• Report schedule risks, material issues, quality concerns, or manpower needs early.
• Assist with manpower planning and production planning meetings.
• Communicate professionally with project managers, detailers, field personnel, and shop employees.

Required Skills:
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Blueprint and fabrication drawing reading.
• Shop math, layout, fit-up, and quality control.
• Welding knowledge, including MIG, FCAW, and SMAW; GTAW experience is a plus.
• Time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and production tracking software.

Preferred Experience:
Fabricating the following:
• Stairs
• Handrails
• Guardrails
• Ornamental metals
• Ladders
• Embedded steel
• Steel platforms
• Pipe bollards
• Miscellaneous support steel
• Custom fabricated assemblies

Using the following equipment:
• Band saws
• Ironworkers
• Press brakes
• Shears
• Drill lines

Non-Negotiable Requirements:
Candidates will not be considered if they:
• Cannot accurately read fabrication or shop drawings.
• Do not have previous supervisory or leadership experience.
• Cannot demonstrate competency in fabrication layout and quality control.
• Have difficulty communicating professionally with project managers, detailers, field personnel, or shop employees.

Anticipated starting pay range:
$40.00- $44.00
