Purpose

The Mill Project Superintendent serves as a technical lead on assigned projects, providing engineering guidance, coordinating design and field activities and acting as the primary interface between project teams, operations, maintenance and contractors. Reporting directly to the Mill Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the safe execution to plan of various mechanical, structural, civil, earthworks and electrical projects withing the mill area of responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Project lifecycle management, leading projects through concept, tradeoff, design development, construction and close out.
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants on various engineering studies, technical evaluations, and design work.
  • Manage budgets, forecast and ensure adherence to project schedules.
  • Ensure all project designs, work plans, and execution methods comply with regulatory, environmental, and sitespecific requirements.
  • Track and report daily, monthly performance, including schedules, costs, labor, material and equipment usage.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to monitor project progress, quality, safety and compliance to engineering design, standards and company procedures.
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as the end users, engineers, site leads, and contractors/subcontractors.
  • Prepare formal risk assessments to ensure that projects are planned and scheduled for safe execution.
  • Identify areas to increase project value and optimize resources.
  • Directly manage the primary contractors that conduct the construction.
  • Implement and facilitate construction progress review meetings.
  • Completion of monthly job task observations in all areas of construction.
  • Facilitate and support daily prestart meetings.
  • Ensure compliance to Discovery Porcupine's standards, policies and procedures.
  • Develop operating procedures and handover documentation to support the transition of completed projects to operations and maintenance teams.

Training and Education
  • Post secondary education or relevant trade certification
  • 10+ years of project management experience working with various engineering disciplines including mechanical, structural, civil and earthworks construction and project execution.
  • Experience in construction estimating and project lifecycles.
  • Team management and development experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Excel.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software/Gantt charts.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills that enable safe oversight of multiple construction fronts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of construction standards and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are an asset.
