Job Summary

Supervise and instruct a Mill Operations crew to perform in a cost effective, safe, productive manner while protecting the environment and enhancing morale of others.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee operations at the mill, crusher, and related support systems.
  • Work with operators in all facets of process training, understanding, safety, and general work practices.
  • Prepare and conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
  • Monitor and maintain all production and personnel records (i.e. daily production and inventory logs, timecards, evaluations, etc.).
  • Generate work orders for repair or modification of operation equipment. In emergencies, off shifts, or as directed, perform or supervise completion of minor repairs.
  • Communicate with other department supervisors that support mill activities (i.e. the Maintenance, Warehousing, or Mine Supervisor).
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure a safe and cost-efficient operation.
  • Develop personnel by training and example.
  • Ability to react quickly and efficiently in emergency shutdowns and power failures.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Two years' previous mill operations crew experience required.
  • General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.
  • Must be production orientated.
  • Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and also as a member of the management team.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
