Mid-Level Information Security Specialist (ISSO)

Location: Clarksburg, WV Onsite

TS Clearance with SCI Eligibility Required

Position Summary:

The FBI requires Operations and Maintenance Support Services in support of the CJIS Information Assurance Unit (CIAU), which manages the information system security controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the FBI's computer systems, networks, and information are maintained. CIAU supports the assurance of secure information sharing between the CJIS and its customers. The ISSO position supports the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of a life-cycle security model that develops, maintains the CJIS information systems, services, and data, and safeguards their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The ISSO coordinates with system owners to ensure systems are operated and maintained in accordance with security policies and practices.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support in the areas of vulnerability assessment, risk assessment, network security, product evaluation, and security implementation.
  • Responsible for designing and implementing solutions for protecting confidentiality, integrity and
  • availability of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for preparing contingency plans for system software, hardware, and applications
  • for the organization.
  • Implement procedures to ensure business applications continue to function through disruptive incidents
  • within an organization.
  • Develop and maintain various security controls to protect technology assets from internal or inadvertent
  • modification, disclosure or destruction.
  • Provide technical evaluations of customer systems and assist with making security improvements.
  • Participate in design of information system contingency plans that maintain appropriate levels of protection and meet time requirements for minimizing operations impact to customer organization.
  • Conduct security product evaluations, and recommend products, technologies and upgrades to improve client security posture.
  • Conduct testing and audit log reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of current security measures.
  • Provide reports regarding effectiveness of IT security and make recommendations for the adoption of new procedures.
  • Responsible for day-to-day security administration of systems and networks including systems access administration.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business or related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of relevant professional experience with applicable technology expertise.
  • Possess excellent subject-related credentials and expertise.
  • Demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills.


Required Security:

  • US Citizenship
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance, with SCI Eligibility and ability to pass a Counterintelligence focused polygraph
