Job Summary

Castalia Systems is seeking a Mid-Level All Source Analyst (Economic), to support to the government's all source intelligence analysis of the Defense Resources and Infrastructure Office (DRI). DRI's mission is to catalog and analyze military and civilian infrastructure and defense-related resources that underpin a nation's or group's military capabilities-including transportation, logistics, defense economics, energy systems, arms trade, physical vulnerability to weapon effects, defense industries, and the operational environment-to support U.S. and allied planners, targeteers, warfighters, policymakers, partners, and acquisition officials.

Roles and Responsibilities

A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
  • Produce all-source analysis on defense economics worldwide.
  • Analyze and forecast defense budgets by service and function; methods of defense financing; costs of force sustainability; relation of defense spending to the economy; resources and policies for R&D/weapons procurement and social support of servicemembers.
  • Develop and maintain a worldwide defense expenditures data base, and provide consumers with the Intelligence Community's authoritative annual assessment of worldwide defense spending.
  • Estimate the economic feasibility of projected military forces, including modeling these forces and applying projected economic constraints.
  • Models future forces to account for alternate scenarios, threat perceptions, doctrinal tenets, economic constraints, and force structure changes.
  • Analyze countries' capacity to afford imported weapons and to pay for equipment and training provided as part of FMS, CFE cascading, or other methods of procurement.
  • Assess the economic aspects of arms control; economic motivations, potential costs, implications of arms control agreements; and the financial aspects of technology transfer and proliferation.
  • Provide analyses of economic stability for I& W purposes.
  • Provide intelligence support to operators in the military and at the State Department charged with enforcing sanctions and interdicting illegal cargoes; assesses the effectiveness of sanctions on limiting supplies and efforts to circumvent sanctions.
  • Assess military involvement in commercial activities, and the role of security assistance in national security and economic policy.
  • Maintain the Modernized Integrated Database (MIDB)/ Machine-assisted Analytic Rapid-repository System (MARS) with information on foreign financial institutions, FPA ECON.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience producing all-source intelligence analysis reports and briefings and input to IC databases or 7+ years of experience in all-source analysis in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and IC Databases
  • Ability to develop high-quality deliverables tailored to senior policymakers or defense stakeholders, including complex written products and formal or informal briefings
  • Knowledge of macroeconomics and financial markets

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience with economic analysis support in the IC macroeconomics
  • Knowledge of data science principles and databases, including SQL
  • Knowledge of ICD 203/206 analytic tradecraft standards

Salary at Castalia Systems is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, position knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $112,200.00 to $125,400.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Castalia Systems' total compensation package for employees.
