Microfabrication Technician

Location: San Diego, CA
Work Arrangement: Onsite; 5 days per week
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for a highly hands-on Microfabrication Technician to support the development and fabrication of next-generation neural interface devices. This role will work closely with engineers to build and refine microfabricated components, precision assemblies, and early-stage prototypes. The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, learning new fabrication techniques, and solving practical build challenges in a fast-moving R&D environment.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricate polymer films, coatings, and microfabricated components using processes such as spin coating, spray coating, curing, lamination, and precision material handling.
  • Perform microscope-based precision assembly, including alignment, bonding, soldering, trimming, and inspection of small components.
  • Learn and operate laser-based and other advanced fabrication equipment used for cutting, joining, and processing device components.
  • Develop and use fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids to support rapid prototyping and improve process repeatability.
  • Work closely with engineers to build prototypes, troubleshoot fabrication issues, and improve processes for manufacturability and yield.
  • Maintain clear build records, process documentation, equipment, materials, and an organized laboratory environment.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in microfabrication, electronics, medical devices, semiconductor fabrication, manufacturing, prototyping, or a related field.
  • Strong manual dexterity and demonstrated ability to perform precise, detail-oriented work.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
  • Microfabrication or cleanroom processes
  • Spin coating or spray coating
  • Polymer or thin-film processing
  • Fine soldering or electronics assembly
  • Microscope-based assembly
  • Laser cutting, welding, or ablation
  • Adhesive dispensing and bonding
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a practical, hands-on approach to solving problems.
  • Comfortable working in an R&D environment where processes and designs are still evolving.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and able to carefully document work.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with implantable medical devices, flexible electronics, MEMS, semiconductor processing, or other precision microsystems.
  • Familiarity with plasma treatment, thin-film processing, photolithography, or related fabrication techniques.
  • Experience developing fixtures or tooling using machining, 3D printing, or CAD.
  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems or controlled manufacturing environments.

Salary: Base salary between $85,000 and $110,000 per year and stock option or restricted stock units grants.
