The Opportunity

As a dedicated MIAM Identity Product Lead within USAA's Member Protection organization, you will be responsible for defining and driving the future of enterprise member identity: how members are verified, how identity assurance is established and maintained over time, and how identity fraud is detected and prevented across the member lifecycle. This position champions the enterprise identity proofing strategy and identity fraud prevention posture, producing authoritative identity signals that downstream functions, including authentication, CIP/KYC, fraud operations, and identity security posture management to make risk decisions. The candidate will partner closely with authentication, technology, fraud, compliance, architecture, and experience teams to deliver defensible, risk-tiered identity capabilities that serve millions of members.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:
  • Define, champion, and drive the overall enterprise identity proofing and assurance strategy and roadmap, covering new member enrollment, identity re-verification, step-up proofing, and profile recovery, prioritizing capabilities that produce high-quality, authoritative identity signals while managing member friction appropriately.
  • Translate business objectives, risk requirements, and member needs into detailed, actionable identity service requirements for technology, architecture, and design teams, encompassing the full identity lifecycle from initial proofing through ongoing assurance maintenance and identity signal reuse across enterprise consumers.
  • Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on identity verification and identity fraud risk, with deep fluency in third-party identity theft patterns, synthetic identity fraud construction and detection, and the tactical methods by which fraudsters exploit enrollment and re-verification flows.
  • Drives, quantifies, and defends Digital and Technology product and experience investments through Business Case artifacts and hypotheses, communicating the value proposition of Digital or Technology products and experiences.
  • Continuously leverages expert data-driven problem-solving techniques and analytical rigor to understand and report on product and experience performance against KPIs/KRIs; shares best practices with team members.
  • Guides team to generate meaningful insights through a variety of tools and resources to uncover areas of opportunity to inform Digital or Technology product and experience improvements; follows through to ensure applicable improvements are implemented.
  • Sets the standard for preparing compelling presentations, and other forms of communication to communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience, including senior leadership, and facilitates Digital or Technology product definition, concept and collaboration sessions to coordinate discovery, development, delivery, and validation activities, as well as to mitigate risks and dependencies.
  • Conducts internal and external research and conducts situational analysis to identify and apply industry best practices and trends to increase effectiveness of Digital or Technology products.
  • Actively manages ambiguity, influences others to bring in 'big picture' thinking and drives clarity, solutions, and execution plan among team and stakeholders.
  • Maintains and applies expert knowledge of the business, technology, UX, and relevant experiences and processes and an expert understanding of Product Management.
  • Consistently provides guidance and mentoring to team members and acts as an escalation point and ensures issues are resolved.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What you have:
  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 8 years of product development or operations experience in a relevant functional area, including financial services, fraud, AML/CIP, or related operational areas supporting identity fraud risk management or identity programs within the business.
  • Demonstrated experience owning product development for a regulated, enterprise-scale capability, including defining roadmap strategy, translating regulatory and business requirements into product and technical decisions, and partnering with architecture and engineering teams to deliver governed, reusable capabilities. Experience should reflect ownership of the full product lifecycle, discovery, requirements definition, prioritization, and delivery, ideally within identity verification or risk management domain.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant laws, regulatory requirements, and compliance obligations, with working fluency in identity related regulatory frameworks applied to an enterprise identity proofing function.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities with high attention to detail in identifying identity fraud risks, patterns, and program gaps.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate and execute across cross-functional teams at all organizational levels and with external regulatory agencies.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence in a cross-functional environment, particularly across boundaries between identity, authentication, fraud, and compliance functions.


What sets you apart:
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full product lifecycle for identity proofing or identity assurance solutions, from ideation through launch, iteration, and ongoing governance.
  • Direct product ownership experience covering enterprise identity verification (IDV) within a regulated financial institution.
  • Deep practitioner level knowledge of identity fraud typologies, particularly synthetic identity fraud construction and detection, third-party identity theft at the account opening and re-verification layer, and velocity and collusion patterns that exploit enterprise enrollment flows.
  • Familiarity with identity proofing vendor ecosystems, including attribute-based verification, document verification, biometric liveness, and synthetic identity and watchlist screening, and experience governing vendor performance against fraud prevention and assurance quality outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of federal identity assurance frameworks and their application to financial services proofing architecture.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, architecture, security, and risk teams to deliver risk-tiered, friction-right identity capabilities that produce authoritative signals for downstream enterprise consumers.
  • Familiarity with emerging identity verification technologies and challenge modalities, including passive behavioral signals, device-bound credentials, and document authentication advances - and the ability to evaluate their fraud prevention efficacy and operational fit within an enterprise proofing stack.


Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320.00 - $273,930.00

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
