The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking a process driven and people focused leader to provide day to day operational oversight of the NNS salaried recruiting team. This team does it all - full cycle recruiting, university and veteran relations and candidate pipeline management to achieve hiring plans. This key position will lead and assign work to staff by leveraging employee skill sets, establishing work team goals and evaluating employee performance. Utilize your strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with candidates and company leadership.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading others to drive customer service, accountability, engagement and business results. Work closely with management to support hiring plans and strategize to advance the recruiting, onboarding and transfer experience. The candidate should be familiar with employment law, hiring practices and compliance requirements for government contractors. Will support activities related to enhancing and growing ties to the veteran community and universities and technical schools to build robust workforce pipelines. Will work with the team on continuous process improvements to enhance the candidate experience, making NNS the employer of choice. This is a very fast-paced environment, where maintaining a high level of customer service will be critical. Conducts interviews to recruit prospective employees and refers job applicants to specific job openings. Evaluates employment factors such as job experience, education and training, skills, knowledge and abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other data pertinent to classification, selection, and referral. Prepares rating on applicants, makes recommendations on starting salaries, and provides applicants with information on the company. May administer tests and interpret results, check references, arrange transportation of selected applicants, extend formal job offers, work with outside agencies and vendors, etc.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
