Job Description

Position Summary

The Manager of Property Accounting oversees the financial reporting and accounting processes for a portfolio of retail properties. The manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, maintains knowledge of assigned properties, and ensures proper documentation and reporting of ownership-level transactions. This role also manages a team, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, financial reporting, audit support, and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Document and record ownership-level transactions and adjustments in accordance with legal documents such as debt agreements, purchase and sales contracts, and joint venture agreements.
  • Research and analyze the treatment of transactions to ensure alignment with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure SOX compliance by enforcing and enhancing internal controls through recommendation of process improvements and supporting audit protocols.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of how assigned property transactions impact external financial reporting including 10Q disclosures.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Property Accountants to drive performance and support professional growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Display strong initiative, resourcefulness, and commitment to achieving goals and overcoming challenges.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, financial policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
  • Highly organized and deadline-focused with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a strong emphasis on Excel.
  • Experience with ERP general ledger, specifically Yardi, preferred.
  • Background in public and/or industry accounting preferred.
  • Experience in real estate accounting, including lease review is a plus.
